If Kaleta can go, Kassian may not even be needed tonight. Granted, I would just as well put him in for the game as a reward and display of what it's like to be up and all that. It'll be interesting to find out what happens in the morning skate.

Like many Sabres fans, I've been drooling with excitement since we drafted him. Trying to temper my expectations for this stint, since the norm for power forwards is a slow progression.
My completely unrealistic hope is he pops someone in the kisser before scoring a couple goals.
Any ideas on which line he'll be on? Like the prospect of a G-G-ZK line, but Tropp has meshed well there too. (Though really, Gerbe is the straw that stirs the drink... he makes his teammates better.)
I don't think people expect unicorns and glitter. They expect Patton atop a Sherman, smudged with diesel soot and holding the scalps of his enemies....
I think people are too hung up on Kassian not playing physical. He needs his offensive game to evolve or he won't be that physical top six player we've needed for years.

I'm not hung up on it, just letting everyone know the reality of the game they have him playing Rochester. It is quite a bit different than his top ten youtube hits.
I have been waiting for this to happen this year. Alot of people were saying he wasn't ready blah blah blah. I thought he should of been in there a week ago. Kassian will get a goal in his first game. Hopefully he lays a few people out to. Just watch and see this is the center we have been waiting for. Golf clap.

How is a winger the center we've been waiting for?

He's not a center. He is and has always been a RW.
Eh, two rookies and a defensively responsible vet? He's not supplanting Tropp with Gerbe and Gaustad at this point, not based on the last few games Corey's played. Now if they can get to Mason early and often, that line might even get some minutes tonight.

The Sabres are going to need to get out to an early lead. If Columbus scores first or manages to get up 2-0 at some point, that line is going to get absolutely zero time.
“Down low is my game, it's a staple of my game, using my body and getting pucks to the net,” Kassian said after the game. “That's what got me drafted by Buffalo.”
His passing ability earned Kassian a spot on the Americans' first power play unit. The former 13th overall pick has flourished in the role leading the Amerks in scoring with 14 points in 18 games.
““Zack has really built every game,” coach Ron Rolston said after a 3-1 win over the Binghamton Senators. “For a young player, he's been pretty consistent. He's getting to the point where every shift is seamless in his execution from system to system and just doing a lot more when he's out on the ice. Not only offensively, but away from the puck.”
His first 18 games have not gone off without hitch. Kassian suffered a five-game goal-scoring drought. The Amerks losing all five games.
The 6-foot-3, 228 lb. winger also has not been the physical presence most had expected. His ability to battle for pucks and skate hard have been impressive, no doubt. But, he's only been in one fight – one that he was forced into by a brawl-ensuing hit by teammate Marcus Foligno.

Mason's not dressing, Sanford is the starter tonight for CBJ
So... after he gets suspended from the NHL, is he allowed to play in the ahl?
While I'm hopeful that won't happen anytime soon, the answer is yes. The way it works is that he can play in the AHL, but can't in the NHL until the suspension is served. The quick and easy way around that is to recall him when the Sabres are playing but Rochester is off to serve his suspension, but when Rochester is playing he is always sent down to play in those games. So in theory, it could take months to serve the NHL suspension (while he is playing in all the AHL games in the meantime).

From what I remember, the AHL almost always honors NHL suspensions, even if that policy isn't set in stone.
