I think he only got two assists in the end, one was given to Holmstrom. He was good last night though, that whole line with him, Testwuide and Holmstrom looked fine. Good two-way players all three of them.

If we ever are able to field a healthy forwards lineup, I think I would prefer if Wellwood got the last spot instead of Zolnierczyk or Rinaldo. We'd lose some energy and hitting, but Wellwood would be able to keep up with his linemates better I think (whoever those would be, but let's say that they are Couturier and Talbot), and he is also a lot better defensively.

It was nice to see the Phantoms being the team to rally back and take the win in the end, this season they've lost quite a few games in the final minutes. Sestito had a solid game for them, Pither and Akeson took a lot of shots, which is a good thing. The downsides might be the pp that didn't look so good, I expected a little bit more from guys like Gustafsson and Marshall as well. They weren't bad, but they should assert themselves more in the AHL, show that they are the leaders.

Kjell Samuelsson looked really old... until I realized that he is turning 54 this year. But that would make me...

He's played 29 games and has a 2.06 GAA and a 0.926 SV%.

The best sign with him is that he's big and uses his size effectively.

Leighton-clone with maybe some actual talent? We'll see.

For Euro prospects I find that eliteprospects.com is a more reliable source for current stats.

I would take how he does in the SM-Liiga as just a small positive. Way too many goalies do well overseas and come over here and do bad.

I do look forward to seeing how he does next year though. Leighton is gone is he seems to be the frontrunner for starting AHL.

Say we trade Bob, one has to think he would fight for Breezy's backup job.

Go to eliteprospects.com for the best (and most up to date) stats for players over in Europe.

Here's the link to Hovinen's page on that site.

The Phantoms lost the return game against Hershey 5-2 on Saturday. Brown (from a beautiful play by Akeson) and Rowe with the goals, Gustafsson with an assist. There was a bit of a line brawl towards the end of the game

3 - ADK Manning, 16:30 - Fighting, 5 min
3 - ADK Sestito, 16:30 - Fighting, 5 min

3 - HER Richmond, 16:30 - Fighting, 5 min

Rechlicz got 45 PIM out of the game, having had a 10 minute misconduct in the first period as well. It's a bit funny that Hershey almost fields an AHL All Star team, and yet has the worst hockey player ever. He's got a goal two seasons in a row now though, I don't think he's had that since he turned junior.

Yeah, he's listed as 5'8" on eliteprospects, but I think even that might be with his skates on. If he keeps up producing like he's done so far, he'll not have to settle for an AHL contract next season.

Matt Read made NHL.com's All Rookie Team
http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=610811
Quote:
RW -- Matt Read, Philadelphia: This 25-year-old is evidence of the importance of a good scouting staff. After tallying 22 goals in his final season with Bemidji State University, Read signed on with the Flyers' organization and finished the 2010-11 campaign with AHL Adirondack, where he went 7-6-13 in 11 games. Read then made the big club out of training camp and has been one of the League's biggest surprises, as he is 13-12-25 in 37 contests. With 13 goals, Read is tied with Nugent-Hopkins for the rookie lead. Not bad for a kid who wasn't drafted.

Flyers draft pick, Marcel Noebels, was traded from Seattle to Portland today at the WHL trade deadline. This will more likely mean a deep playoff run for him, something he wouldn't have got in Seattle. If you are a DirecTV subscriber (lots of those in Philly, right? ) with the sports pack, you can see him play on Root NW on Fri Feb 3 and Fri Feb 24.

Hopefully he grows better with a better team. I think he was a damn good pick for the 4th round.

He made no secret about wanting to play in Germany this year so maybe that played into his performance this season? In Portland, there won't be as much pressure on him to score, so maybe he can relax and play better. In Seattle, he was trying WAY too hard to make things happen, almost becoming a black hole.

What kind of player do you think he will become like (in comparison to a current player in the NHL)?

Yeesh, I am never good at trying to compare players to current NHL'ers. Basically, he's a great skater with decent size and uses his reach to his advantage. He's not overly physical but certainly isn't afraid to go in the corner, either. He is a playmaker, for sure, but lately those plays have been for himself. Like I said before, maybe with the pressure off, he will utilize his teammates more and become a bigger overall offensive threat like he was last season with Seattle.

Hmm, I guess if I had to pick someone, maybe Krejci but with more goal-scoring and fewer assists.

Ricard Blidstrand was traded from Regina to Prince George on Tuesday. He was 3/10/13 in 30 with the Pats.

Here's an article from 10 days ago about his sophomore season in the WHL

Quote:
REGINA — Ricard Blidstrand didn’t get mad, he got defensive.

After struggling at times in his rookie season with the Regina Pats, the 19-year-old defenceman has quietly found his niche by embracing a basic defence-first approach which has helped him earn the trust of head coach Pat Conacher.

“I had a goal before the season to be better defensively,” offered Blidstrand, a native of Sweden. “If you look at my plus-minus last year (minus-30 on a poor defensive team), that was my goal to be better and everything else would be a bonus.”

An offensive defenceman by nature, it wasn’t easy for Blidstrand to take a step back and rethink his fundamental approach, especially given the stereotypes that apply to European players.

Blidstrand fell into the trap of believing he had to put up points to be a successful WHL player.

Upon further review, that’s not necessarily his game.

“Last year I had a little bit more power play (time) and more expectation on myself,” he noted. “This year was more like a new start for me. I started from the bottom and worked up. I’m happy to do what I do right now. Being on the power play, that’s just a bonus. This is the game I want to play, a little bit more defensive and move the puck well.”

Blidstrand has the tools to excel in that regard because he’s a strong skater and makes a good first pass. Combined with a greater attention to detail in his own zone, Blidstrand has shown he’s capable of being a key contributor to a defensive core that’s the strength of the team this season.

In fact, the OHL hates him so much that a Flyers fan on here hates him
