Eh, I dont know if Im sold on Galchenyuk. It does come into question how good he is without playing on a line with Yukapov, who is considered the best prospect in a really long time.
Sort of a
Hnat Domenichelli is to Iginla as Galchenyuk is to Yukapov kind of scenario
Akeson got 2 pts (goal and an assist including the game winner) in the phatoms 4-3 win last night. he now has 10pts in his last 10 games and 17pts for the year (6g, 11a) in 20 games. he's tied for the team lead in pts w/ the AHL vet Hamel.
With the current health of Pronger and who knows what Timonen has left in the tank after his contract is up the Flyers have to stock up on defenseman. draft the best D on the board.
Hopefully we keep our draft picks this year.
I wonder if we would have drafted Dougie Hamilton if Couturier wasn't still on the board.
They need to find a stud defenseman in the next draft though. Haven't looked around to see who fits that bill though. They can't be sitting around hoping that Shea Weber doesn't stay in Nashville.

I really think we would have. At the time, I wanted Hamilton but with how things have turned out, I'm happy with the pick we made.

Good of them to win with a fairly depleted roster. On that note, I saw that they'd called up/signed a dman named Andy Thomas. Haven't we got Hostetter playing in the ECHL? Any reason for why he wasn't given that spot?

Some real good defenders in this draft. Top 4 potential players that can be found in later in the 1st round, and even players projected in the 2nd round some saying had potential to be in the 1st during other years.
Really hope Florida gives us their 2nd this season.

Wasn't there something posted on here, from a WHL blogger, who said Duncan Siemens told him the Flyers informed him he would be their pick, except that Couturier dropped? Surely someone else remembers that?

Yep. I wouldn't mind Siemens per say but if we had drafted him over Hamilton I would have shot someone.
Hamilton sounds like he's just big, mean, nasty, etc. If we went d-man, he's exactly the type that would suit this team. I don't know of Siemens is of the same ilk.

Siemens is also a big defensemen that is mean and physical. He might actually be more physical than Hamilton, but he isn't quite that huge. Hamilton has a greater offensive ceiling and he supposedly is the smarter player. I've seen reports questioning Siemens hockey sense. Siemens over Hamilton would have been a mistake.
Phantoms win again, beating Norfolk Admirals 5-1. McGinn with two goals (one of them a pp goal), Holmstrom, Jancevski and Hamel with the others. Leighton in goal saved 28 of 29 shots.

I thought it was Beaulieu. But regardless apparently we were not interested in Hamilton which makes no sense to me.
No but I've seen a few streamed. I haven't been watching as much lately. Good thing he's slowed down the fighting. Want him to focus on playing hockey.
I haven't seen much of them, but I haven't been impressed by Lauridsen. He drastically needs to improve his acceleration in the first strides. He's also been out of position quite a lot, in the little I've seen him play.
EDIT: I guess I was wrong. Box score had him playing but Tim said he didnt. He was scratched right before.
I gotta say though, the Phantoms but be playing a pretty good system. They played one of the top offenses in the AHL last night with 5 defenders, 1 of them being an ECHL callup (two of them if you consider Eddy), and they still won 5-1.
The Phantoms played tonight as well, facing Norfolk again. This time they fell 2-1 though. Akeson with a pp goal. Leighton with 32 saves. Manning had 17 pim, 15 of those coming when the game had ended however. Sestito also got 15 pim after the final whistle. Previous game had a bunch of fights as well, guess they don't particularly care for each other.

Yes this draft is shaping up to be extremely deep in that department. I look forward to the draft and especially curious to see if they continue to take the best player that is available on their board when it is their turn to pick vs the need pick.
I to really hope the panthers give us the pick, but for some reason I have a gut feeling they will not. Prove me wrong Florida.
