The idea of this draft is that there's good depth on the defensive side, therefore you don't need to get into the top 15.

Not to mention that's just terrible value / asset management for the flyers.

Flyers trade a 2nd line RW w/ 1st line potential who has been nothing short of dominant on the puck for moving up 10 picks in the draft?

Jeezus HFboards is nuts when it comes to draft picks.

There is good defensive depth in this draft but there are some great potential 1st pair dmen in the top 12 of this draft, like Trouba, Reinhart, and Ceci. These guys have size, instincts, and can move the puck. It is rare to have so many high end guys in one draft outside the top 7 or 8. The guys at the end of the 1st like Schwartz and Matheson could turn out to be 1st pair as well (And I would be just as happy with those guys) but do not have the all around game like the top guys. The Flyers have depth so I would rather go get a sure fire superstar than hope a later pick turns out to be one. If Voracek has as good as value as you say, him plus the 1st should get in the top ten than. The problem with Voracek is production. He is on pace for barely over ten goals and 40 pts. He is still very young but this is his 4th year and hasn't sniffed 20 goals yet. I like his game but without the production, he is a highly skilled 3rd line winger scheduled to make more than 2.25 mil next year. That's a lot for 10 goals.

While I understand you are taking a shot at Leighton, the Flyers also did sign Bacashihua in the offseason. With that signing Backlund became the number 3 in Adirondack. It was pretty much inevitable that Backlund would be heading elsewhere before the season ended.

I think you draft BPA no matter what. Given our scouts' ability to find obscure gems late in Round 1, I'd rather have this year's Giroux than go by the charts and draft a crappy Dman who never makes it.

Pity about Backlund, he just had a badly timed groin injury the week the Flyers really needed him two years ago and that was it. He looked like he might be able to play in the NHL, but you don't always get the chance if you're hurt all the time.

They also wouldn't have needed to give Bacashihua a contract if Backlund didn't have a one-way contract for this season.

still don't know why they gave him one

Yes. Based on the fact that the best Flyers defenseman the Flyers have drafted and developed was Chris Therien in the last 35 years, they should just keep drafting forwards and then use them to trade for d-men.

I do think they should use all of their 4th rounders and lower on D-men and/or Goalies.

Slater Koekkoek looks like he's out for most of the rest of the season to get shoulder surgery. Wonder if he'll drop to the 2nd round? If we can snag him AND Maata...wow

What kind of shoulder injury is it though? One that can come back and haunt him later in his career?

If that happened... wow, would be happy as could be. On of the two would have to work out right, even with our D-men draft history!

And he is a good old Dutchman, his name makes me laugh as well, Slater Cuckoo if translated!

So many quality d-men it's really hard to tell where everyone slots at this point. The potential of the blueliners in this class is crazy.

BPA is the only way to go.

Odds are pretty good that BPA by the time we draft will be a defenseman. It's so deep this year, and flows deep into the second round.

yup expecially for us since we have little in terms of prospects. we could honestly go F D or G and it would be the right pick.

Whoever is falling is who id like for us to draft.

if we don't trade away our pick before the draft. We tend to do that a lot. . Sure they are for good reason but i get frustrated when i see so much guys like Weber and Letang getting drafted in the second round and being dominant.

The good thing about the flyers is that they are always in win now mode. That means trading picks for established players. Sometimes it works sometimes it doesnt.

He was Nail Yakupov's linemate in Sarnia in his rookie year.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alex_Galchenyuk

There are his stats. He was supposed to go around 7-10 but because of a knee injury many have him dropping all the way to 20th.

He was compared to Marian Hossa by Igor Larionov.
