VAN/TBL Hedman for Schneider + ???

Not to hitch my star to Garrioch's wagon but if TB is really looking for a young netminder what would the Canucks have to add on top of Schneider to get Yzerman to bite?

Tampa Bay would want more than it is worthwhile for Vancouver to trade for Hedman.

Not a chance in hell. And I mean that literally. There is not a single player on Vancouver that I would trade Hedman for.

Vancouver isn't going to be willing to part with what it would take for Yzerman to bite. What Vancouver would have to add would be more than Gillis or any Canucks fan would consider reasonable.

Nope. We have zero need for Kesler. I like his game but Hedman, our top defenseman and very quickly becoming one of the NHLs top defenseman, is more important for our now and future than a second line 2 way forward, as good as he is.

Thank goodness you're not a general manager of an NHL team.

I'm pretty sure there aren't too many GMs that would trade Hedman for Kesler. A top dman in is worth more than a two way forward in most scenarios. Especially when that dman is only 20.

There is a difference between A teams top d-man, and the top D-men in the league

Yes there is, and Hedman is very rapidly closing that gap. And was playing top 2 minutes on a team that went to the ECF last year.

Oh phew I thought we'd have to give up Ballard.

If ever Hedman was traded (1% chance at most) would be for a stud 1/2 D-main +. He is the last player Tampa would trade, so a huge over payment would be needed.

A team could have no real "top end" players and still advance to the ECF...or WCF... or Stanley Cup

If Van wanted to add Edler to Schneider it might make sense for Tampa. Other then that I don't see Tampa trading Hedman

Kelser may be a better player than Hedman but when everything is taken into consideration I don't see Tampa Bay doing that trade. For the same reason, Henrik and Daniel Sedin are clearly both way better players than Hedman but it's unlikely, given salary and current roster considerations, that Tampa Bay would trade Hedman straight up for one of them.

As for Schneider+, there's no way they'd do that.

It'd require Kesler + Hamhuis or something stupid like that.

Hedman is emerging as a #1 defenseman at age 20, all the while being 6'6 and an excellent skater. You don't give someone like that up.

Actually between this thread and a few others popping up lately it's quite clear he is ridiculously underrated.
