Isles' 2012 1st rd pick

Are the Islanders still gunning for a playoff spot and willing to trade to save their season or just expecting a lottery pick?

Well, no matter what they always suck, but I think they will not trade that 1st round pick. I think they should just fire the Coach and hire one with a good coaching resume, Capuano isn't good at all.

can't do much with that blueline and goaltending

unless they can draft both next year they're not going to do well next season either

Nope. Draft a much needed defenseman. Ryan Murray looks like your guy.

I don't think the Isles were legitimately gunning for a PO spot this year. They were just looking to improve upon their standing from last year. Anything more was a bonus.

They'll keep their 1st rounder and draft Murray or Dumba.

It's going to be a top 5 pick, at least have the decency to upgrade to a first round pick....

That's not even remotely close to what a potential top 2 pick is worth.

giving them that good of a return would negate that lottery pick though. especially this early in the season. it's not a sure thing

Weber and Eller aren't enough to pull that team out of the basement on their own.

"That good of a return"? Yanick Weber (we're not talking about Shea here) and Lars Eller are not going to turn a lottery team into a playoff team. So yes, that deal would in fact do nothing to change where the Isles' pick would end up being.

Why would the worst team in the league trade their 1st round pick? What the Islanders need to do is fire snow, fire Capuano, get a 1st line winger for Tavares, get a second line center, get some grit, and a top 2 defenseman. If we had an owner with any hockey knowledge, these would be relatively easy fixes at this point, but we don't so they are going to just continue to suck for a long time.

The Isles are probably the odds on favorite to finish last in the league now. Since we are the Islanders, we'll probably lose the lottery and select #2 overall.

In any case, it'll probably be the #1 overall pick. That's the value of the pick. It will not be moved by a continually 'rebuilding' team. Yakupov should look good with JT.

If you're targetting a team's first round pick, you expect them to be bad, ergo when you call a team up to ask for their pick specifically, they are more inclined to think that their team is bad and not trade it.

The Isles would have to be making the offers here.

Here is a legitimate proposal:
NYI:
Shea Weber or Ryan Suter
Anders Lindback

NSH:

Evgeni Nabakov

This pick is probably gonna be Yakupov or Grigorenko so it is worth a lot. They'd be stupid to trade it.

Garth won't and shouldn't trade it. The season is lost, Isles will finish 1-3 draft wise.

Milbury would have traded that pick for Brett Lebda, but thankfully Snow has proven to be more sensible. He'll keep the pick unless he receives an offer that's too good to refuse.

How does that help the Isles? They add another struggling player in Kulemin, a UFA in Grabovski and a good but not great prospect for two of the top prospects in hockey?
