Hahaha I'm not an Isles fan and I'll say it does not. Not at all. New York would get burned royal if this deal went through. Those two aren't even worth the 1st rounder. Basically you're trading Kadri and Aulie for Yakupov/Grigorenko/Murray/Dumba/Forsberg, Nelson, and a 3rd round pick. That isn't fair value AT ALL.
Why would the worst team in the league trade their 1st round pick? What the Islanders need to do is fire snow, fire Capuano, get a 1st line winger for Tavares, get a second line center, get some grit, and a top 2 defenseman. If we had an owner with any hockey knowledge, these would be relatively easy fixes at this point, but we don't so they are going to just continue to suck for a long time.
New York Islanders 1st round pick 2012 = Mikhail Grigorenko
Destroy the Nassau Coliseum and build a new one
Michael Cammalleri = 1st line winger for Tavares
Tomas Plekanec= One of the best 2nd line center in the league
Hal Gill = top 2 defenseman..for the Canadiens
If I'm the Islanders, what the heck I'd trade it for a sure asset or 2 it's not like most guys they're drafting are actually progressing as well as they'd want. When you draft bad(except 1st overall picks obv) and when you have a reputation for botching and rushing players development you might as well start moving young assets for established players.
Given that we're on the upswing right now, I'd go for that.
Honestly, I can't see a reasonable scenario at this point in which the Islanders would trade their 1st. From here it looks like they need quality defensemen, and those haven't been widely available. It might be better to just sit, grind it out, and wait for folks like Hamonic and McDonald and company to mature.
Remember - when you're a hockey fan, it's not "reckless driving", it's "good forechecking".
