Parise isn't half the player that Kovalchuk was when we traded for him. Knee problems are a major red flag since he's showing a very limited game.

His lack of production has nothing to do with his knee.

if parise walks after the season, the devils get $6m in cap space. that's better than most trade returns proposed. why take on $3m for a 4-5 type d-man that can easily be replaced by devils system internally?

Scenario 1
We trade Parise, we miss the playoffs. he signs else where.
Scenario 2
We don't trade Parise, we make the playoffs, get swept, he signs else where.
I'd much rather go with scenario 2 than 1. The bad return would not be worth it. Even nothing is better than crap.

scenario 3

Because I love Taormina too much in Albany for him to get called up. Seriously, that would depress me.

Zach's Point Production
When John Maclean went down with a knee injury back in 1991
he was never the same player as he was before the injury. He was
a sniper pre-injury, but after he came back he was never the
same player. Will Zach ever be a point per game producer again
or does he really need Zajac to put up the stats he had before
his injury?

1989-90 New Jersey Devils NHL 80 41 38 79

John Maclean misses the entire 1991-1992 due to a knee injury

I'd be good with trading him but I doubt it happens to be honest. I'm expecting him to walk or us to overpay 7Mill+

Until parise very publicly rejects the second most lucrative contract in hockey history his value is much much higher than kovalchuks was

Parise isn't a good player anymore. That's why all the other teams want him and that's why our fans feel we deserve a king's ransom for losing him.

I think we would have to package him with Marty, Larsson and a 1st round pick. Otherwise nobody would take him.

Maybe we can trade him for Zetterberg or Paul Martin.
