Bolts and Leafs

I have read several places that Toronto and Tampa have been in trade talks. The latest of these include Rick Dudley attending Tampa's game against Florida.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/sports...9zN_story.html

Obviously one has to think Tampa is still in the market for a defenceman. What could these two teams be discussing?

Edit: Sorry the article isn't linking due to restrictions but you can find it if you type Rick Dudley into googlenews.

Yeah, Burke apparently had Dudley personally scout Tampa.

It seems like he would be after someone like Malone. Not too keen on that myself.

If he sent Rick to personally scout Tampa you'd think they'd probably be looking at a young player, no?

Could be, seeing as how Dudley is known as one of the best talent evaluators out there, but who?

Can't see Connolly being available.

Don't think Burke is going for the big names (Stamkos, STL, Vinny, Hedman, etc.) but I think Steve Downie might be a player Burke is looking at.

I could see Tampa thinking they could do without Connolly if they got a legitimate top 4 young defence man. They do have Ashton who is a similar prospect.

Why not? He's a local boy. Yeah, a bit scrappy and has a reputation for being quite the **** disturber but he's calmed it down and seems to have cleaned up his act a bit.

I did hate him back in 07-08, as did the rest of the hockey world but he's come a long way since then.

Would be great on the third line with Armstrong or Frattin.

The guy is a complete head case. If I was Burke I wouldnt want him any where close to the Leafs dressing room.

Lol Leafs would have to send a lot more than Franson for Connolly.

From the home page of the lightning's website....

Brett Conolly - 19
Steve Downie - 24
Blair Jones - 25
Teddy Purcell - 26
Dana Tyrell - 22

And as always.....

Ryan Malone

If it's to assess talent, I'd be thinking Brett Connolly, Teddy Purcell, Blair Jones (never heard of him) or Dana Tyrell.

Wont think Stammer. And as usual, Malone because "he's a Burke-type player"

Would like Purcell on TML.

If that was true, I think it would take another piece of significance to go along with Franson for him. He won't be let go of easily.

The Leafs could have had Jones last week when he was on waivers. Top quality AHL'er, not so much an NHL type, despite an excellent playoffs.

Connolly is most likely not going anywhere. Purcell could be a possibility. Spends a lot of time on Boucher's bad side. Malone could possibly be talked into waiving his NMC for Toronto, but I doubt it.

I don't necessarily mean Franson. Only Stevie Y would be able to tell you what top 4 dman he thinks is worth Connolly (I think we can rule out Phaneuf and likely Gardiner/Schenn)

The Lightning and Leafs have been discussing Franson for weeks and were the team that offered a 2nd and a player (which was Gervais) for him.

And don't say salary cap, 'cause that's a given ;|

If you wanted Connolly it would most likely have to involve Schenn or Gardiner IMO. Those are the only players that what motivate Tampa to move a player they really don't want to move.

Really? No wonder Burke turned that down, Gervais barely qualifies as a player.
