I thought it had something to do with Eriksson wanting to still play in Europe and because of that they couldn't afford to use a contract spot on him. Tough spot for Holmgren really.

can't say I have heard of him. Can a flyers fan (or anyone else that has knowledge) give us a run down on him? His numbers seem really good....

Well, the Monster isn't that good so it's probably a good idea to start recycling bodies in search of that dominant tender

Eriksson is going to be a hell of a player.

That move (or lack thereof) will haunt Holmgren.

Eriksson stated on numerous occasions that his desire was to come over to North America as soon as he could. Holmgren was the one who wanted him to stay in Europe and get playing time because he had nobodies like Brian Stewart, Johan Backlund, and Nicola Riopel clogging up the minors depth chart. He then decided that a polished 21-year old was less appealing than a raw 23-year old project that is Niko Hovinen. It was regarded as an awful decision at the time, and it's only going to get worse.

Good size, around 6'2'', lefthanded (or I should say catches right). Typical butterfly goalie who uses his positioning to make the save, but does have good reflexes. Like a lot of Swedish goalies, plays relatively deep in the net.

He was born in the same year and in the same town as Jacob Markstrom, so of course, growing up he was always the #2. When giving the opportunity, he's been lights out. Last year in his first year of SEL action, he was delegated to backup for Skelleftea as they made a run at the title, since they were going to lose their prized defensemen in Rundblad, Larsson, and Erixon. He was outperforming Hadelov until around December, when he played once in like 6 weeks. He got out of his rhythm and struggled a bit. But he's dominated every level he's played, often with one of the worst teams in the league.

By the time Philadelphia decided to not sign Ericsson, he was coming of a not very fantastic season, this year he has been amazing. Still thought it was strange not so sign him at the time. He was a young goalie, adapting to SEL, with clearly a lot of talent.

Traded (with a ring)
Playing in the SM-Liiga
Playing in the SEL

Unless you want to go all the back to Crha?

It say a lot about the value of goalie prospect, when this kind of young goalie are left unsigned and up to grab.

But if I remember correctly, He went back into the draft last year, and no one took him. So every team could have had him for a 7th rounder. And then no one offered him a contract as a UFA in the summer. So obviously, Philly was not the only team that thought he might not turn into anything.

Stupid, he could beat Emery's numbers this year easily. Bad moves by smart people.

i get the feeling one of our goalie prospects might be packaged out with other roster player(s)/prospects. Most likely for a top 6 so signing another goalie prospect to help down the road is not a bad idea at all.

Almost assuredly. The longer the Leafs are in the playoff picture, the greater this chance becomes.

Bring on Eriksson!
