Bettman doesn't want us to have any more teams. I would be shocked if Canada got another team within the next 5 years.

agree I say 75% chance they are there next year, 90% chance they are outside of Phoenix next year. 100% chance Quebec has a team by the time the new arena is built

I probably will do this. Just frustrating that he didn't do it already.

Wrong. Bettman wants to expand the league into as many viable markets as possible. He does not want to relocate teams. We will see expansion if it is viable, with Quebec City probably being a frontrunner.

I agree, except that I think it's ludicrous to even be thinking about expansion when almost a third of the teams in the NHL aren't doing that great.

The NHL shouldn't expand. At least 5 teams, shouldn't be where they are right now. How does adding help the problem? Move the teams to cities where they can flourish. Like another in Toronto. That team would make so much money, and the Toronto - Toronto rivalry would be insane. But the leafs would never let that happen.

I obviously hope that they would move more teams to Canada, but I would also like to see a team in Seattle, and a team in Las Vegas would also do pretty well IMO. But no league wants a team there due to the gambling.

Keyword was viable. I don't think it is viable to expand right now.

I don't think 5 teams should be moved. The only team that should move is Phoenix because they've been screwed do to their contract with the arena. The Isles might be another team, but only within the NY area if Wang/Nassau don't improve the team's future. Specifically with regard to your proposed expansion locales: I don't think Las Vegas is good for sports. For example, the CFL tried and failed there. A second team in Toronto is entirely possible. All you have to do is convince the Board of Governors, ie pitch how much revenue it would bring without impacting Leafs revenue, and be willing to pay the territorial expansion fees to the Leafs.

I assume it is ok to post this here considering it is just us, and no phoenix fans or anything, but this is the NHL is would love to see. Some of these cities are too small now, but I think that none of these markets would fail if 10-20 years were given to allow their populations to grow.

Smythe: Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, Saskatoon, Winnipeg, Seattle, Portland, LA
Norris: Minnesota, Wisconsin, Chicago, Detroit, St Louis, Colorado, London, Hamilton
Adams: Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal, Buffalo, Boston, Hartford, Quebec, Halifax
Patrick: Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, Washington, NYR, NYI, NJ, Columbus, Indianapolis

More off topic, I'm slowly less frustrated and am now going to go play some PS3 before the game.

*Cue angry Pheonix fan*

I actually really like that. I wasn't watching hockey when the league was set up that way. Does every team play team that aren't in their division the equal number of times?

Yeah I would want a home and home against everybody, but the league would either have to go to 90 games, 76 games, or play 3 teams in your division 6 times and the others 4 times. Then there would be divisional playoffs.

90 sounds good.

Get on the phone with the NHL,

If there is an realignment next year, I want it along the lines of this.

There was also a study that said Canada could support 12 NHL teams (which is what I have) they said QC, Hamilton, and either London or Kitchener (I say London because it is farther from the GTA) could support a team. Didn't say Saskatoon or Halifax, but I am saying in 10-20 years when they grow.

Rogers sucks everyday from 3-4. This test was done within the past 5 minutes

And this was done one hour later at 4:30

Officially? No. Essentially? Yes.

London would have to pretty much convince the BOG that they wouldn't interfere with Buffalo, Hamilton, or Toronto. Don't see it happening.

The only two of those cities that are within about an hour and a half drive (according to google maps) are Hamilton and Toronto.

Both of them could draw big fan bases without signifigatly harming the leafs

That doesn't mean the Leafs would be happy about it.

The Leafs have a hell of a lot of power in the NHL, and I bet you they would do everything in their power to prevent it from happening.
