Keys to the game: Blue Bombers

http://www.cfl.ca/video/index/id/22575

KEY PLAYERS

QB - BUCK PIERCE - A homecoming of sorts, Pierce arrives in BC to take on the organization that jettisoned him following several inconsistent and injury-plagued seasons under centre. The injury troubles are still there, however, no one can deny the pivotís will and determination to win football games. His 3,348 passing yards and 14 touchdowns are overshadowed by a glaring total of 18 interceptions. But there is an argument to be made that the number is inflated due to a disastrous five-interception outing against the Roughriders in the Banjo Bowl. Statistics aside, Pierce is viewed as a leader and a warrior by teammates and he continues to find ways to win. Isnít that all you can ask for from a starting quarterback?

RB - CHRIS GARRETT - Itís a story as old as time itself. The veteran star goes down with an injury, paving the way for the upstart backup to make a name for himself. However, there was a slight twist in this version of the tale. In addition to seeing the starter (Fred Reid) on the sidelines with a season-ending injury, the backup (Carl Volny) would join him, too. Enter unknown third-string RB Garrett. In six games as Winnipegís starting tailback, Garrett improved the Bomber run game with his tremendous speed. His 567 yards on 92 carries and four touchdowns heading into the post season is impressive enough for the Bomber-faithful to anoint him as indispensable for the coming season, but his 190-yard performance in the Eastern Final left them wondering what else he has in store.

WR - TERRENCE EDWARDS - Winnipegís most dangerous deep threat, Edwards enjoyed another strong season with the Bombers. His 56 receptions for 1,124 yards and eight touchdowns led the Bombers young receiving corps. Edwards is the veteran of the group that features two up-and-coming talents in Cory Watson and Clarence Denmark. It will be interesting to see him go head-to-head against a dangerous BC secondary that picked off Ricky Ray three times and held star receiver Fred Stamps to a modest 76 yards during the Western Final.

DB - JOVON JOHNSON - The Eastern nominee for Most Outstanding Defensive Player, Johnson was a threat on all parts of the field for the Bombers in 2011. The defensive back returned two of his league-leading eight interceptions for touchdowns and also managed to tack on 55 tackles in the process. He is also a reliable kick returner, racking up 795 combined return yards. Johnson will certainly have his hands full this week when he will likely be lined up against either Arland Bruce or Geroy Simon.

DB - JONATHAN HEFNEY - Across the way from Johnson is fellow DB Jonathan Hefney. Equally as dangerous in the Winnipeg secondary, Hefney had another strong season with the Bombers, recording six interceptions and 76 tackles along with one sack. In two games against the Lions this season Hefney was a force, racking up 11 tackles and one interception.

DE - ODELL WILLIS - The Mayor of Swaggerville wonít be in Vancouver on political business this week. Rather, the elusive defensive end hopes to make life very difficult for quarterback Travis Lulay. The league's co-leader in sacks (13) saw a slight dip in his playing time in the later stages of the season, but whatever questions existed were erased during the Eastern Final, as Willis played a key role in limiting Hamiltonís Avon Cobourne to just 28 yards.

BC sucks! BC sucks!

TSN just showed a nfl films style doc on the Bombers journey this year... About Harris, the incredible D, last weeks cold eastern final... I had a lump in my throat the whole time.

GO BLUE

I don't follow the CFL but I understand this is a big day for Winnipeg.

So in the interest of being competitive....

Blue Bombers win 42-1.
Ron Hainsey Scores 6 Touchdowns.

maybe this has been discussed elsewhere, not sure, but did you see the footage of Joe Kapp and Angelo Mosca going at it? jeez, what was up with that ...Mosca almost took his head off with his cane and then Kapp decks him with a punch to the face.... too weird seeing 70 + year old guys doing that

In the last 10 years my teams have gone 0-6 in the finals so I'm usually convinced they're going to lose. I have no gut feeling about this one though.... hopefully that's a good thing.

I haven't seen my team win since I was 10 years old.

Lol, I muted the TV.

And my friend is a Bomber cheerleader and got to go to Vancouver so that's pretty sweet. Already saw her a couple times!
