Yeah I'm pretty sure that's a lock now.

Not sure which team(St. Louis or Indy) has the number one, but they have one and two locked up. I'm pretty sure there was no way for the Vikings to get higher than the number 3 pick.

Yep. Colts and Rams are 1-2 - it wouldn't have mattered if they won or lost last week.

Just saw Rubio and Love demolish the Mavs...yea, I hate BB but I wanted to see Rubio...

His name just reminds me of the Rufio chant in Peter Pan with Robin Williams

Rubio and Love are going to be one of the best tandems in the league pretty quick here. Love can do anything he wants and Rubio can make it happen.

Not an NDSU fan, but it's very good to see a regional team make it to the big game this weekend against Sam Houston.

Just when you think the Vikings can't get any more clueless, they go out and name Spielman as their GM. Laughable.

Correct decision in naming a GM. Beyond horrible naming Spielman to that title.

It's a bad sign when David Kahn has competition for worst GM in town.

Toby Gerhart with a confirmed ACL tear in the last game of the season. Both our RB's are out for training camp- at least. Better not do something drastic and take an RB over o-line and secondary help. I mean, Spielman would never do something that stupid, right?

I think it's a fitting result for all the people who kept clamoring for a GM like that was the problem with the team. Hearing people like Rosen harp on that every time the Vikes were brought up was almost as off-putting as watching this year's edition of the team on the field. It seemed more like the fans/media were more interested in having a catch-all for their bitterness towards the team than anything else.

I did a mock today, you can read that...

Going into this mock I wanted to be a bit realistic about what could possibly happen with what this front office could be planning and give my own twist on what I would do under their likely heading. Not so much what I would personally do if I was the GM. So, here we go...

Departures:
Jim Kleinsasser - Retired.
Steve Hutchinson - I believe they'll show him the door or if he feels he can't continue, he may retire.
Anthony Herrera - Cut due to what's to come...
Sage Rosenfels - Don't need him in the room.
Joe Berger - Won't be needed.
Greg Camarillo - Just can't play at this level.
Patrick Brown - Not good enough/never showed anything.
Fred Evans - Couldn't get on the field this year.
Cedric Griffin - I would personally bring him back, but he won't be.
Lorenzo Booker - The Vikings can do better for his role.
Benny Sapp - Hopefully this spot can be upgraded...
Tyrell Johnson - Bust.
Jarrad Page - Mostly a fill-in

Re-signings:
Multi-year deals*
Visanthe Shiancoe - Need him around as the Vikings are bone dry after Rudolph. While the kid will eventually get there, another year of grooming while giving Ponder a reliable option is a smart route to take if Shiancoe wants to stick around.
Erin Henderson - Modest multiple year deal. Shown enough to this point, even if he'll never be great the team needs someone there...
Letroy Guion - Similar situation to Erin. Good rotational guy.
Single Year Deals*
Devin Aromashodu - Good enough body to have around. Hopefully he can be beat out by incoming talent.
E.J. Henderson - Still has a bit in the tank. Effective as a thumper yet. Like Shiancoe, need a bit of a transition period. He'll be gone next offseason.
Husain Abdullah - No viable better options to take his place means he'll be back for another season.
Eric Frampton - Very good special teams guy.
Letroy Guion - Similar situation to Erin. Good rotational guy.

Free Agency:

Height: 6-5 Weight: 343
With New Orleans giving Evans a very large deal at the other guard, combined with all of the Saints' other players they need to take care of; I think it's a good bet Nicks sees free agency. The Vikings need to over-pay to get him in but they bite the bullet and do so. They make Nicks the most expensive guard in the league. He may not be that good, but he's very good and will go a long way to solidifying the line.

Height: 6-0 Weight 190
Ross has had an up and down tenure with the Giants. One week he'll flash and make plays on the ball and the next he'll be thoroughly out played. Unfortunately, it's been more of the latter. He's a decent option to give a look, though. Especially with how depleted the Vikings' secondary is.

Height: 6-3 Weight: 225
With the Vikings not comfortable going with Sage, they go out and get a back-up Musgrave is comfortable with; Chris Redman. He's a solid back-up and mentor to have around. Nothing more.

Draft:
With the top two selections going Luck-Kalil, the Vikings entertain offers to trade down. Kansas City signs Flynn in the offseason which means Cleveland, Miami, and Seattle amongst others will be taking a hard look at RGIII. Minnesota finds a partner with Miami for the #3 Overall pick and returns Miami's 2012 1st Round, 2012 2nd Round, and 2013 1st Round.

1R(#8 via Miami)

Height: 6-5 Weight: 312
With Nicks already on board, adding DeCastro all of a sudden gives the Vikings a dominating interior presence. It allows Ponder the ability to have a pocket to step into and not to mention Peterson lanes to run without being hit in the backfield. DeCastro is a punishing run blocker and is great out in space. With he and Nicks pulling out leading the way for Peterson down the road, look out. He's also a very sound pass blocker. Put simply, there's no flaw in his game and he's nearly one of the better NFL guards today.

* As the draft unfolds, the Vikings watch as their guy is still available throughout the teens. They finally make a move with Cleveland at #23. The Vikings move their 2nd Round pick (via Miami) and their 3rd round pick to select:

1R(#23 via Cleveland)

Height: 6-6 Weight: 320
Mike Adams has a lot of what you look for in a left tackle. Very long build and some athleticism to go along with it. He's not going to be a guy who's going to shut down his opposition all day long but he's got the skill set and frame to give a dependable effort and not be beaten like a drum. He's got some fire to him and is very quick out of his stance.

2R(#35)

Height: 6-4 Weight: 225
Dwight Jones possesses and ideal skill set for a QB like Ponder. He work intermediate routes very effectively and has the frame and hands to be a sound and reliable possession receiver. He can make things happen after the catch but he's not as explosive as other players in this draft.

* With Adrian and Toby set to be laid up most of the offseason, the team looks to find another difference maker on offense. There happens to be one in this draft that they feel the need to trade up for. The Vikings move their 4th and 5th Round selections to move up into the late third round...

Height: 5-9 Weight: 195
Admittedly, picking LaMichael James is going induce some furrowed eyebrows. However, I think James adds a lot of what this offense could use; another extremely skilled player that causes match-up problems. James' shifty and explosive nature will allow Percy more time at the WR position and both will give teams headaches with what they can do with the ball. Add in the other mounting Viking offensive threats with what they're building on the offensive line and this has the makings of a team that could be very good on offense.

4R(Compensatory)

Height:6-3 Weight: 235
Tyler Nielsen brings elements to the table that the Vikings linebackers desperately need; length and ability in coverage. He's very good laterally and has the technique and ability to make plays on the ball. He'll struggle off of blockers to start, but ideally you let the guy earn his way in coverage and see how he progresses.

5R(Compensatory)

Height: 6-0 Weight: 208
D'Anton Lynn has adequate size for a corner, though I do think he could play some safety in the league because while he does not have the true quickness to make him a very good corner prospect, he does have pretty strong top end speed. He's an intriguing prospect later int he draft.

* Even though the Vikings have several needs across the board, the thing they need most of all is talent. This isn't a one year fix and I attempted to move around in the draft not to acquire quantity, but quality. I think I accomplished that but you all can be the judge.

Great post. Loved the one last year too.
I'd be absolutely thrilled to have LaMichael James. Doubt he's going to be a star, but his achievements in College are really something.
