Long Term Players

Seeing the thread about Foligno made me wonder which players people here think should be on the team long term So I made a poll with the 15 (fits perfectly) players under 30, you can vote for multiple options, so you don't have to choose just one.

voted karlsson, rundblad, cowen, greening and spezza. close to picking michalek, like him a lot, but feel that i could see murray and co trading him if it were the chance for a better winger.

Spezza, Karlsson, Cowen, Rundblad, Z.Smith, Greening, Michalek. Daugavins and Winchester would be my HM, I was close to picking them. They serve a big role on this team and are young.

I really like Winchester as a fourth liner. Excellent faceoff %, beautiful PKer and his boardwork is magic. Him being not that physical might be a blessing in disguise since it makes it unlikely that he will get overpaid.

I think the opposing top teams will dislike Winchester a lot more than some type of pugilist or agitator. Imagine coming to the faceoff dot, losing the puck taking another 20 seconds to regain the zone, spending the rest of your shift grinding out the boards because Winny will force you there and keep you there for days. Shift is over, you're tired and you didn't accomplish anything.

I'm all for extending this guy for three or four years. But that's only if we want Smith as the third line center. Those two are excellent bottom 6'ers and I don't mind keeping them.

Doesn't Murray always build a kickass bottom 6?

I can see next year with

Greening - Spezza - Michalek
Regin - Zibanejad - Silfverberg
Daugavins - Smith - Condra
Foligno - DaCosta - Stone
Winchester

Cowen - Karlsson
Borowiecki - Gonchar
Phillips - Rundblad
Lee

I think Alfredsson retires; Butler, Neil, Carkner, Kuba, Auld dealt; Konopka is not resigned. I could also see Gonchar dealt to a playoff team if he wanted it. Somewhere we'll be taking a player back, hopefully a high-end prospect.

Wonder what a Neil/Gonchar package would bring us from Philadelphia or LA.

Did the exact same except I switched Greening for Foligno. Greening is on the fringe, I seriously considered him but for some unknown reason I have him just outside.

I'm guessing long-term means 2-3 years

Spezza, Michalek, Karlsson, Rundblad, Cowen
HM: Smith

Also would add Silfv, Zibby to list if they were options.

Not enough room, and also then I would have to put all our prospects including small names like Dzingel to make it fair

I know, I just felt the need to include those two guys as HMs, I didn't expect you to change the poll

Greening a long term player already? ( Think I'll wait till the end of the season for him and the other players)

Everyone except Lee and Winchester. Obviously it's performance based, some guys like Daugavins, Da Costa, Butler aren't shoo-ins. But if they perform like they are capable, I don't see why they couldn't be here long term.

As a fan of Ottawa, i lament that I don't get to watch enough of their games. I really liked your post. It gave me a new insight to understanding Winnie's value.

As for Smith... I fricken LOVE him! He's a keeper for sure!

Brother please! There is no way Lee<Daugavins. Not only is lee a superior player he plays a position that is in more demand. Daugavins is a 4th liner on a competitive team.

Players I'm confident are here for the long haul:

Spezza, Michalek, Karlsson, Rundblad, Cowen, Smith, Silfverberg and Lehner.

Players I think have a good chance to be a big part of the future:

Filatov, Puempel, Stone and Noesen.

You genuinely think that could be our lineup next season? Wow...

HM goes to Alfie... He's god. He's staying for years.
