Sad note here: Given they DO NOT have results from Overeem's urine test yet, it is possible NSAC won't even rule on this today.

COMMISSION STILL HAS TO VOTE, but sounds like they are in favor of licensing Overeem as long as latest test comes back clean

Commission will consider a license that will put additional requirements on Overeem in the future. Vote still to come..

This has split. Half clearly just want to go "yeah, license him. Who cares?" the other half are saying "this is kind of shady, right?"

That license is granted. So Overeem has a conditional license to fight Brock Lesnar based on those grounds. #UFC141

Overeem must drop another urine sample in the States. It must be clean. And he will have to do random testing next six months.

Here's what Overeem is facing: The test within 72 hours, a test when he lands in the U.S. for 141, and then two random tests after 141.
lol what a bunch of self important twats at the NSAC. They seriously get Overeem on the phone at 1 am over in Holland to confirm for them that yes, he did indeed fight at 205 lbs about six years ago?
Overeem will pass all those tests. If he uses steroids, he'll have cycled off long ago. He's safe. But if he has another fight in six months, then he won't be able to use (if he does), and that could be an issue.
The NSAC has to have the worst and weirdest administration practices on the planet. Everything about it seems so disorganised and amature. Everytime a "scandal" happens, we come to the realisation that we, the fans, know more about the fighter's situation than they do, which is an embarrassement on so many levels imo...

apparantly someone from the commission was under the impression that this was going to be his first hw fight... yikes
It's completely ridiculous. The commission is an absolute joke. I don't know how bodies of power like this can be so incompetent. Whoever's in charge of the commission should be embarrassed (I believe it's the governor).
CSAC is worse. I don't like government regulation in sports, period. Our little insights into their operations like this just show how inept they are.
Let the UFC regulate themselves. If they're running a crooked business, then the fans will stop attending the shows and another MMA promotion will rise from the ashes. It allows the UFC so much more freedom to hire competent judges since it seems the government doesn't care. Besides, it's not like these athletic boards ever stopped crooked boxing promotions.

I heard that they do that in some places in Europe like England(I think), right? Seems to work fine there
New Strikeforce/Showtime deal is official. They will have up to 8 events per year and all the prelim fights will now be televised.
Bad part about this deal is that Melendez isn't coming to the UFC.
They are also getting rid of the HW division...
Quote:
The big men aren't long for Strikeforce, as the promotion will finish out its Heavyweight Grand Prix and soon afterward, eliminate the division in order to focus on its remaining weight classes.
"What you'll see after the event with the tournament finals between Josh Barnett and Daniel Cormier, you'll see one more fight where the winner will fight a top-rated heavyweight and then we're going to go back to focusing on our other weight classes," Coker said.
I was cheering for Cormier before but now I'd like to see Barnett win. If Cormier loses, Dana will probably still sign him to the UFC but I don't think the same can be said for Barnett. I think he needs to win the HW GP in order to have any chance at getting back in the UFC.
