Stone only Sens prospect named to Canadian WJHC Selection Camp roster

TSN

No Puempel. No Prince. No Pageau.

Discuss.

EDIT: Prince is American.. I didn't realize that. Also Pageau is apparently injured currently, but I'm not sure how severe his injury is.

Well Prince is american. Pageau is injured which would be the only reason I could think of him not getting an invite, and I don't know why Puempel wasn't invited.

No Puempel?

Good for Stone though. Hopefully he can make it.

One would hope. The US have been so deep in recent years, but these two are hardly struggling so they stand a good chance.

Puempel will have another chance next year. Based on the Super Series game (which is of course just one game), I didn't expect to see him on the list.

Pageau has a broken finger, I think he will be out of game for another 2-3 weeks, still IMO that's the only reason he is not making the team cause the guy has been putting up 31 pts in 17 games!!

Pageau would have gotten an invite if he were healthy, for what he brings and for politics.

Puempel brings nothing to the team that they won't already have in spades from players who will bring a much more complete game. He didn't have much of a chance to begin with. He'll get his chance next year.

Ottawa will have plenty of prospects on other teams.

Puempel seems like a top 6 or bust type player for the team, and there are easily 6 forwards that are better than Puempel, so it's not surprising that he didn't make it. Pageau probably would've been invited if not for the injury, but he would've also been a longshot.

Caught one game Puempel played against Russia and in a high scoring game he was invisible. He was rarely around the puck and was on the perimeter most shifts. If he had an outside chance at an invite that series probably killed it.

I'm just happy we will have someone from the Sens on Canada, Stone is a lock.

Yeah it's been a while since we've had a forward on the team. Last one I can remember we had is Brooks Laich.

^ That's the best we can do. People are penciling Noesen and Prince in too early...it's not that easy and as CHLers they aren't given any favours. Neither, either or, or both could make the team but I'm not sure it's set in stone either way.

Culek played last year and should be a lock.

I would assume every forward at camp is too.

I have yet to watch him play, but his numbers haven't improved from last year so far.

Unfortunately, that doesn't mean much these days. In the WHL, there are over 30 players currently scoring over a point-per-game pace (led, of course, by Mark Stone). In the OHL, there are over 40 over 1.00 PPG.

Does it suck for Puempel? Yeah. He's had a good year, but there's so many good young Canadians these days that even something as small as the threat of a recurring injury re-surfacing can be enough to choose one guy over the other. That's the price you pay for having the deepest pool of junior-aged players on the planet.

Also, the WJC is, for the most part, a tournament for the senior players. Rarely do 17 & 18 year olds have success, and when they do, they're usually the generationally exceptional talents. Puempel will get his chance next year.

It's ok.

Puempel needs to focus on hitting his stride and getting back on his progression as a prospect. He lost some very valuable time last year and over the summer that other prospects had the benefit of. He's going to be a bit behind developmentally.

I might be crazy but I thought I read somewhere that Marcus Sorensen might make team Sweden.

Has anyone else heard anything like that?

He was a surprise last year and almost made it and it seemed like he'd be a shoe in to make it this year. I'm not sure why but it seems like he'll be farther away from making it this year.

Doing alright in the Allsvenskan league though thus far. Maybe something has changed recently.
