James Neal fined $2,500

http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=603761

Ridiculous. Neal got a penalty and a fine while Subban got away with his slewfoot that lead to Neal's stick hitting Subban's head in the first place.

It doesn't really seem necessary to fine Neal on this play. That video does look a bit more intentional than I originally thought, though. Still, this just screams 'we got the Hab, so let's try to smooth things over by nabbing the Pen' to me.

I love Subban, though.

I don't get it, there was no injury on the play and he received a minor penalty for it. The penalty was a joke to begin with, Subban slewfoot Neal and then he embellish it. It's not my money so i don't care but i'm curious to know why he received the maximum fine?

I'm sorry but that is just asinine. Trying not to be a homer but Subban should have been suspended & this is a very bad call.

I thought the call on Neal was questionable when it was assessed. But the gif, above, shows there is more to what happened. I'm ok with the fine.

If I had the priviledge of making a couple $mil a year to play hockey, I'd be more than happy to drop $2500 for the priviledge of cracking PK Subban over the head.

I read some commentary by PK Subban in which he claimed Max Pacioretty is not a dirty player (re: Letang hit)... PK would know

Jesus... soon Shanny's NHL will have padded sticks.

Gionta can run goalies 80 times a year but a high stick is now costing players money? Maybe by next year it will be a 3 min PIM.

The fine's not the issue, the "repeat offender" **** is.

Now if Neal does something marginal...

It's stupid that Neal got fined on this play... but acting like it's Subban's fault is much more stupid...

This is a joke. Not the fact that they didn't watch the replay or anything, because as a Habs fan, I agree that the "slew foot" led to this. The joke is that they fine players 2.5k and expect things to change.

2500 bucks is pocket change, it's like less then what it would be for us to get a parking ticket.

The Gionta play on Reimer still pisses me off. I was at the game, and it went down so innocently. Nobody reacted. Nobody knew anything had happened. Then suddenly, Reimer doesn't come out for the second period and all the Leafs fan around me were like, "why the bleep is the Monster in goal?".

Gionta's play was so much more suspendable than anything we saw on Saturday night.

He got spun around while having no reasonable expectation that he was suddenly going to lose his balance. What's so hard to understand?

Pretty sure only suspensions count as repeat offender, but I could be wrong

The video does show more intent, though. Neal wasn't completely innocent either. I mean, he saw the fall coming and didn't handle his stick in a careful manner whatsoever. Ended up whacking a guy upside the head. Surely we (Pens fans) can see that Neal was in the wrong a little here, no?

Was it worthy of a fine, though? Of course not. But the penalty on the play was warranted.

Fines count also as evidenced by the Letang suspension earlier this season. He was treated as repeat offender because he had been previously fined for similar play.

Good thing Letang didn't get fined. Neal did.. But I understand what you were trying to type out there..

I'm not sure why you don't understand, you get slew-footed when your not expecting it and you loose your balance and control of your stick...

Ever trip over the sidewalk and fall with anything in your hands? were you in control over your arms and the items you were carrying? (probably a bad example)

LOL how does he see the fall coming?

Don't tell me you haven't been spun around just like that when someone trips you or you just lose your balance? You have no control over anything at that point.

He falled, I see ALOT of player fall in a game but they don't all put their stick high in the air... Doing that is asking for trouble... he got fined 2.5k... big ****ing deal...

There's no doubt in my mind that Neal could have avoided whacking Subban if he wanted to...but there's also no doubt that fining Neal for doing so when Subban was the one that precipitated the incident is ridiculous.

$2500 was worth the look on Subban's face afterward, though
