And this is the funniest thing about all of this, it should have been an automatic match penalty + suspension for Subban, who has done this bs before.

Quote:
Rule 52 - Slew-footing

52.1 Slew-footing - Slew-footing is the act of a player or goalkeeper using his leg or foot to knock or kick an opponent’s feet from under him, or pushes an opponent’s upper body backward with an arm or elbow, and at the same time with a forward motion of his leg, knocks or kicks the opponent’s feet from under him, causing him to fall violently to the ice.

52.2 Match Penalty - Any player who is guilty of slew-footing shall be assessed a match penalty.

52.3 Fines and Suspensions - There are no specified fines or suspensions for slew-footing, however, supplementary discipline can be applied by the Commissioner at his discretion (refer to Rule 28).

I wouldn't be surprised to see this brought up in the next CBA, as it currently limits fines to $2,500. I would like to see the NHL change this, as long as Shannaban doesn't go around throwing out $500,000 fines for accidental high sticks after a player has been slew-footed.

I'm with Jags. You are always responsible for your stick, no matter what.

This is not difficult to understand, guys.

He didn't fall, that's what you're missing.

Looking at that gif, it does look like Neal meant to get his stick a bit high.

And I usually stay away from the Subban stuff, but he clearly kicked Neal's feet out. You can see it even better from the opposite angle.

Oh man I really find it hard to believe the raw power of Subban's standing slew foot caused Neal's right arm to forcibly fly back in his direction. If this was at high speed sure I'd buy it, but come on. You get knocked over like that the arm opposite the person that knocked you over doesn't naturally flail towards them with abandon.

PS: We all know Malkin loves the slew foot so let's chill a little on that. A slew foot is a slew foot, but a little perspective please.

I don't know why we're arguing anyway. I don't think two people who played PT hockey can ever contribute anything to a hockey discussion.

If you had a reasonable excuse to smack Subban in the face wth your stick without it being too obvious, would you? I think there is your story and Neil does not regret a dime of the fine.

He got a high sticking penalty. Why the fine? Unless the league thinks he intentionally bonked Subban, which doesn't appear to be the case to me nor would it make any sense for Neal to do so at that point in the game.

I don't even remember the last time someone was called for a slewfoot. It is one of those things I don't think the league will really look at until someone is really injured.

No reason for the fine. A penalty was sufficient.

Which is strange, as it is one of the cheapest/dirtiest moves in the game.

That's fine I'm just saying I don't know how you can say he could've physically done it completely by accident.

Malkin "loves" to slew-foot people? News to me. I remember him doing it something like once a few years ago in a game against Columbus. That's about it.

As for the fine... I mean... it's nothing, monetarily but it does open him up for the "repeat offender" tag. And while I understand the need to control your stick even if some ******* like Subban is in the process of whipping your skates out from underneath of you, I don't really get the need for supplementary discipline here in the form of a fine.

Oh well.

EDIT: "Sc*mbag" is censored? Hilarious.
