Non call on the second high stick was bad, lead to a minor on us that was weak to say the least. You just can't not call that when you called that exact infraction less than a minute before.

Lucky for the Caps the Blues are terrible on special teams.

Great to have Dags back on the scoresheet, must be like a month since he last hit the net.

Please let that line get some excitement and knock off the rust that has frozen their play!

We look fantastic right now. They said 19-7 in shots.

Also half way to fulfilling my prediction

If Elliott starts playing bad 20 games from now, then he shouldn't be the starter anymore, nothing is set in stone, but Elliott should be getting the majority of the starts right now.
What's your definition of "right now?" Halak's been playing extremely well (.937%, 1.67 GAA) since the end of October. Those are legitimate #1 starter numbers. Elliott's playing even better, of course, but giving games to Halak isn't exactly throwing games away. Halak's signed long-term, has the history, and will get the playoff starts barring a miraculous development. He's not going to be relegated to a "backup role", no matter how much fans want it.

Nor should he be.

I've been very pleasantly surprised by the effort tonight.

Hopefully that goal gets the second line going. It feels like the Caps are just moving in slow motion tonight.

Also this crowd is completely SILENT. Blues have sucked the life out of the building

In a month we'll have a whole new set of scapegoats and "potential stars" Next year they'll all be forgotten and replaced... it's the vicious cycle of what have you done for me lately.

Right now, both goalies are putting up great stats, the only difference is Elliott isn't letting in soft goals and a few of the goals that Halak allows, he should save. With the way our offense has been, just 1 soft goal in a game is the difference between points and no points. If Halak stops letting the softies in or Elliott starts to, then they will be on the same level and can split time evenly. I know I'm splitting hairs and nitpicking, but that is the only difference between the 2 right now.

I agree. "Holy Jumpin!" aside, he's a very good color man. His anecdotes are spectacular, and goaltender analysis is something that's well beyond the observation abilities of most commentators and fans. He's not an overly biased commentator, either. IMO, we're spoiled to have him.

He really is one of the best nationally, very knowledgeable and not obnoxious.

Honestly, I'm not trying to be difficult, but that's the first soft goal I've seen him give up in quite awhile. Early in the year there was no shortage of them as he was sitting back in his net and trying to goaltend by "reflex." He's fixed that, though, and has been extremely solid since. He's clearly not the goaltender he was earlier this year, and I don't see any reason to hold that against him moving forward.

A lot of this discussion obviously hinges on subjective interpretations of what's going on. If you think that he's consistently given up soft goals over the last month, then I guess we'll just agree to disagree. No harm in that.

I have been very impressed on how the team and more specifically Halak have responded. This is what we need out of Halak when we get down early on the road.

I was afraid that with the early goal and the fact that it was a softy, Halak would get rattled and the Caps would get a couple more, but Halak is playing like a #1 and the team is doing their part out shooting them 20-11.

You don't seem too concerned that Backes fell asleep on the play and let Backstrom skate right past him. There's no way that pass should have gotten to his tape, or even center ice with 4 Blues players back.
