Yeah it doesn't make much sense. Burke has built up the farm system so well, why damage that in one deal when the team is doing so well?

Also, why should the price for Ryan be more than for Kessel?

Ya, wow, does he every look overrated this year, playing half the game, 5th in league for defenceman scoring, our CAPTAIN, and looking every bit a Norris contender.

Go sleep it off...

That's not me btw, but the guy likely doesn't even wanna play here. Even in 2010 when there were rumors, he said something like "If I get one more e-mail about a Toronto rumor, I'll lose it".
That's his fault for getting a twitter. You have to kind of expect this crap from Toronto fans. We treat hockey players like celebrities when the rest of the world is like "WHO THE HELL IS BOBBY RYAN?"

But I digress. Leafs have plenty to offer in exchange for Ryan's services. Look at our prospect cupboard, take whatever. Just don't take our 2012 first rounder.

I don't see the pont of sacrificing a 24 year old forward because of a slow start to the season due to injuries to defencemen.

Since we are leading the division due to our depth, I am not to sure that we should trade it away, even for a player like Bobby Ryan. As for draft picks, next year's draft is going to be a pretty deep one.

Of course, he arguably has the same value as Kessel. But where would he fit in the line-up? You can't have him on the same line with Kessel. You would still need a pretty big and tough center. Colborne might be that player, but still has a long way to go before being the #1. To place Ryan on the 2nd line would pose the same problem. Besides, MacArthur seems to confirm the fact that he is an effective goal-scorer.

I am not saying that Ryan wouldn't improve our team. But trading assets like Kulemin, Schenn, Kadri, Gunnarsson or Franson would be a mistake.

The Ducks got off to a bad start last year too. They should show more patience, other than maybe firing Carlyle.

This move is probably as much, if not more financial than it is about the slow start.

Indeed.

Thus, your logic suggests everyone should stop blindly dreaming and carry on with their day, or at the very least, whip over to the "Are the Leafs the most popular team in the NHL" thread and brainstorm why certain NHL fans despise Leaf fans, above all.

Slightly OT, but just from a comment above.. in my 5+ years posting here and maybe 7 reading I've yet to see an upcoming draft referred to as anything but "deep". Every single one of them lol..

Grabovski + Franson + 1st? I can't see us going much higher than that, and even then I'd be a hesitant about it.

I think guys are over paying here, he's a 30 goal scorer, not Pavel Bure.

If these proposals are what is required, I say PASS big time.

Anyway Burke should only offer a Jeff Carter like package, anything more is an overpayment, Ryan would be more like a luxary, considering he would likely play in our second line.

Bobby Ryan's contract is an incredibly valuable one and in high-demand around the league from both playoff teams and bubble teams alike.

Not only that, but Anaheim really has no reason to trade him of all people.
