Hawks looking for a defenseman

espn rumour,

Hawks may trade for marquee d-man
They now have the cap space to do so.

who might that be?

Anyone else hear it? Read it on Twitter as well.

MOD EDIT: SUPPORTING LINK

Quote:
Ottawa Sun link http://www.ottawasun.com/2011/11/26/...r-iginla-trade
The Hawks were able to get LW Rostislav Olesz and his $3.125-million salary off the books by sending him to the AHL. GM Stan Bowman will spend by dealing for a blueliner. The Hawks now have more than $4 million in cap space.

I saw this in the trade/rumors forum and I literally just copied and pasted what the guy said, lol. so I thought I'd post it here since the Sharks may wanna move Braun or Demers who have been getting shuffled around in and out of the lineup. So I figure maybe the sharks could trade Demers for Frolik? That sounds like a good deal to me. What do you gentlemen think?

1. Don't want Frolik.
2. Don't wanna trade with Hawks.
3. Don't wanna trade Braun or Demers unless it's a can't miss deal.
4. Chicago doesn't want a PMD anyway. They want a defensive defenseman.
5. Chicago already has a young PMD playing heavy minutes (Leddy) and the don't need another.

Nick Leddy was suppose to be the answer for Campbell. Brent Seabrook has also been hurt recently.

To free up his 7+ million dollar cap-hit. Plus, they could be looking for a Top-4 defensive defenseman to be paired with Keith.

That's why I assumed they traded him but to just turn around and ship out assets for a different defenseman to consume that cap space? What are the chances they're even able to acquire someone better than Campbell without moving some important pieces?

They have an elite two-way guy in Seabrook who's proven terrific with Keith in the past and they have a solid defensive player in Hammer on the second pairing. It seems like they could just pair him with a puck mover and be fine and of course there aren't many better puck movers around than Campbell.

I know but I assume he'll be back sometime in the near future. Trading for a "marquee d-man" just because he's temporarily on the shelf doesn't make a whole lot of sense.

It appears they are looking for a better D man than they have, not someone of Campbell's "ability". Not with 4 mill they ain't. Plus they had to get the money off the books at the time they traded Campbell IIRC.

A solid defensive defenseman could cost around 4 million or less, saving 3 million in cap space that will be used next season for Sharp's contract.

What do they want that we have?
And Vice Versa?

I don't think we're good trading partners.

I'd agree to send them White for a pizza for the team and Bowman agreeing to fill the sharks locker room coke machine for a year... if white would agree to the deal..

1.) Braun or Demers are not "marquee" d-men

2.) Don't really want to trade with the Hawks, but if I want someone back, it's Dave Bolland or bust IMHO. But no way in hell do the Hawks give us Bolland...

I'd do this.

Let's be honest here, Boyle is someone that discussed in trades more and more over the next couple of seasons (and maybe a little this season). He's 35, has a $6.7m cap hit and I think it's highly unlikely he would remain with the Sharks after his current contract is up anyway. If the Sharks could trade him for someone like Kane (which is highly doubtful) I could see the Sharks doing it. But for the purpose of this thread, I don't think the Sharks and Hawks are particularly good trading partners.

And Kane is a huge primadonna ********* that I want no where near this locker room. The only player from the Hawk's I would really want is Bolland.

As to trading Boyle, this is our cup run, and we can't afford to get more offensively top-heavy again. As I believe Vlasic-Burns is our new top pairing (now and in the future) and am totally comfortable with that, I am ok with downgrading Boyle a bit, but with Demers slumping so hard I don't know that he's really going to cut it this season.

Pretty risky, probably more of an off-season move option. Plus Boyle's NTC becomes limited in the off-season this year.

I can see the Sharks trying to move Boyle during the 2013 offseason more than next. At that point, he'll have 1 more year left on his current deal and I'm sure there will be some team looking to reach the cap.

Heck, if Soupy can be dealt, then so can Boyle.

For the next 2 years, let's hope he continues being the stud PMD we need.
