Lemieux AINEC, especially if you consider the act of actually scoring goals.

Datsyuk's hands are slick, but way, way over rated and not in the same conversation as Mario's.

Lemieux has the best hands in the history of the league, so no, it's not close. I can't believe there are a bunch of 12 years olds who voted for Dats, lmao.

Mario AINEC. Datsyuk is not in the same realm as Mario in any aspect of hockey.

You have to be under 15 years old. Just have to be.

For his time, Lemieux was the best puck handler ever. But I think the league has picked up in the last 5-10 years in regards to this skill. Datsyuk is probably the better pure puckhandler, if you were to teleport a prime datsyuk into the 80's he would probably be a 160+ point player and score ridiculous highlight reel goals.

Both have been called the best of their time, but I would argue Kovalev could give them both a run for their money.

Datsyuk is the best stickhandler in the game today, but out of the two it's Mario pretty easily for me.

Lemieux had the best hands of all-time IMO.

Having grown up watching Lemieux in hundreds of games in person and on TV...it's Lemieux. It's like what that previous poster said...I've never seen a player able to put the puck anywhere he wanted like Lemieux could...whether it's around players, a pass through 5 sticks, or shooting.

Datsyuk's no slouch though. He's hard not to love.

But the poll is better hands, not only stick handling.

Mario could to a lot of things with is hands that made him a goal a game player and a 2.5 points by game player at the same time.

But it is true that Datsyuk could be the best in the league for a while =.

I dont know why onne has to be better then another. Lemieux could protect he puck better then anyone and was so good at making inside outside moves an his soft touch and long reach was awesome to watch.

Datsyuk does such innovative moves though, its insane.

Kovalev, Datsyuk, Jagr, Lemieux, Malkin and the list goes on. I love hockey!

many players were better than lemieux in some aspects. for example, on D and faceoffs.

lemieux was below average in both.

You do realize that Lemieux is winning the poll in a landslide right?

Yeah. Kovalev was probably the only guy, who can really challenge Mario in this category.

Can we not have comparison polls featuring the most legendary players to ever play the game? It's just embarrassing.
It's not ridiculous, we are only comparing one aspect of hockey, not the player as a whole. Datsyuk has the best hands today and Lemieux did in his era. Its quite fair but I expect Lemieux to win because of his legacy. I think Jagr was just as easily impressive as Lemieux but for some reason I dont think that would be such a long shot with some ppl if you compared his to Datsyuk.

There goes nostalgia clouding people's perceptions. Datsyuk is a better defensive player by far.

Datsyuk.... But Hockey is more then quick hands, so Lemieux. I don't think Lemieux can do anything Datsyuk can't do if it's a pure stick-handling competition, and you got 30 seconds to do you're best moves. But Lemieux had better timing and vision.

Faceoffs. Defense is half the game. I like how you are trying to play it off as some meaningless skill in a player.

Datsyuk also doesn't have pylons on skates known as '80s defensemen that he gets to "stickhandle" around.

Ye, and your point is? Datsyuk can't even sniff on Mario Lemieux, sorry bud.

Which is what Lemieux did in the 80s. So... Datsyuk is just as good as Mario Lemieux?

Because I always thought it wasn't close (which it isn't) and that Mario was considerably more skilled than Datsyuk (which he is). The only player in the league who is even remotely close to Mario (but still far off) is Crosby.

Like Raymond Bourque, Scott Stevens, Paul Coffey, Larry Robinson, Denis Potvin, Al MacInnis, Chris Chelios, and company?

Lemieux is probably the most strictly effective stickhandler ever, and along with being one of the best goal scorers ever, that makes this an easy win for him.

When you combine his control with his reach and anticipation.. well, he was the best ever in this category. Enough said.

That's cause 8 year olds can do stuff today that noone had even seen in the 80s. The art of stickhandling is constantly evolving and getting better, and of course Datsyuk is better.

The guy above even mentioned Lemieux size as a reason why he was bigger. How is that relevant? Datsyuk can everything Lemieux did, the same can't be said about the reversed situation.
