Hello. My name is Al Montoya. I play for the Isles. Prepare to lose.

Abbreviated version due to lack of time:

Good:
- Both goaltenders
- McNabb
- Kassian's fight
Bad:
- The 5 on 3. Strategy: Plant your feet, apparently.
- Leino getting picked at our blueline, leading to a breakaway.
- Leino missing a wide open net.
Ugly:
- Grags. Enough.

The Sabres fell victim to one of the classic blunders, the most famous of which is never get involved in a land war in Asia, but only slightly less well-known is this: never get Marc Andre Gragnani involved when the game is on the line!

Good:
Hecht
Vanek's effort
More honest performance from the callups/kids.
Ehrhoff.

Bad:
Gragnani's defensive game.
Vanek-Hecht-Poms having no chemistry, even with Vanek and Hecht making moves.
Ruff's inability to adjust.
Roy has been a mess for a while.

Ugly:
Roy's blown chances.
Leino's blown chances.
Gragnani on the 5 on 3.
Ruff even putting Gragnani on the 5 on 3.
The fact that I'd take McNabb/Kassian/Sczcechura, youthful inconsistency and all over Grags/Stafford/Ellis.

We kind of have to play Gragnani at this point.

Forget about this team finding their identity. How about staying out of the infirmary?

Enroth was good. Sekera was good. Vanek was good. Hetch was okay; was invisible aside from his goal. Everyone else can take a walk.

well I don't see how MAG was the reason we looked bad. Sure he is in over his head on the powerplay but at least he keeps the puck in, and while his shots haven't had eyes, they certainly haven't hit shinpads

Game of bad bounces here for the Sabres offensively, though they certainly could have played much better.

Good:
- Thread title.
- Call-ups still playing well enough to fit in.
- McNabb's hit
- Gerbe's response -- I wouldn't be surprised if he were willing to throw down there -- and the resulting Kassian fight
- Enroth played a damn fine game

Bad:
- McNabb has a lot going for him but you can definitely see his foot speed will give him lots of problems if he doesn't continue to improve there. His skills are pretty underrated though. He could be a rock solid contributor in many ways once he gets more experience and improves skating. He needs to be careful when guys are taking him to the outside because they will have avenues to abuse him with. Hopefully he learns a lot from Regehr on how to squeeze out angles to negate his skating deficiencies. In the mean time he doesn't look out of place, which is good.

Ugly:
- The home record
- All the passes that wouldn't settle and bounces just an inch off of blades. Plenty of opportunities right up to the end but they just wouldn't pan out. How much is the players fault and how much is a result of the uncontrollable chaos that is existence? Hard to say, but they should have upped their play enough to have guaranteed another goal.

I'm glad you brought him up.

He really needs to pick his game up. He's letting this team down right now.

Though, he has company.

Roy's been struggling for a while now. Bad turnovers, getting absolutely lost in his own zone, shooting into shinpads...

Good:
McNabb
Enroth
Enroth's friends, the posts
Adam's save
Kassian's fight
Regehr-McNabb looked pretty solid to me
The Hoff covering for injured Leo
Thread title

Bad:
Missing an open net
Not scoring on a 5-on-3
Leo injured (I don't even know what happened exactly)
Hecht seemed "off" before the goal
Roy can't shoot AT the net to save his life

Ugly:
Gragnani
Interference call on Kass, Phantom hand-pass call....reffing in general
Grangani can't connect with a pass in his own end to save his life
The outcome of the game

I posted this in the GDT, but it's probably more appropriate for here:

Quote:
So rather than running a train on our favorite whipping boy(s), hows about someone answer these:

-Why do we consistently get outworked by the Islanders? This has been going on for years despite their seemingly less talented club.

-When do we start holding the offensive players accountable who are making more than $25k more than the league minimum?

Pominville: 1 goal in 5 games
Vanek: 1 goal in 8 games
Roy: 0 goals in 7 games
Stafford: 0 goals in 11 games
Leino: 1 goal in 23 games
Gerbe: 0 goals in 12 games
Gaustad: 1 goal in 24 games

How is this good enough?

$28.6m in cap hit right there. When do we start allocating blame to all those guys (rather than just Leino and Roy)? Why aren't people asking more of Gaustad and Gerbe? Because they work hard? **** that. As usual, fans confusing effort and achievement.

Where is the core to score that big goal?

But, by all means, let's blame all this team's ills on the $550k defenseman, who, while playing poorly is not relied nearly as much as the above "core" players.

I've had very little problem with him defensively over the past several games--in fact it's been a bright spot (although that second goal tonight was just a cluster ****--Roy and both D-men were caught beneath the goal line). Roy's backcheck has never been better and he always seems like he's in the right spot to break up plays.

But Roy is not here to be a defensive forward, he's here to be a scorer and a difference maker. He needs to be better offensively...and all those blown chances tonight...
