Let's wait until he's on his 60th game of the season. Stepan hit a little bit of a wall at that point... a lot of college players do. I'm not saying that Hagelin will. I'm just saying let's wait and see.

Love this kid. Nice to have a swede on the team other than Lundy. His speed is great not afraid to take it to the net and like contact, extactly the kind of player i like to watch. I see him getting a few breakaways soon with his quick forecheck. Looks like EC will have to compete with Mitchell for a spot. I hope WW is moved for a 6th rounder or something.
It must be his preparation going into the season. Must have worked harder then ever. Because its not just now at the NHL level, apparently he was doing this in Hartford as well.
Maybe its being around Pro players in this short time rapidly developed his play.
What ever the reason, there's nothing in his game that suggests its a flash in the pan. Its not just the offensive production. The production is a by product of everything else he's doing. His play away from the puck, his reading the play quickly and using his speed to close gaps and take lanes away from the opposition. His hounding the puck...all the time. Strength on the boards. In all three zones. And his stamina is high end. He keeps going.
I don't see any weaknesses.
Not picking on you specifically but why noone is giving credit to the Hartford coaching staff? Torts talked about it.
He reminds me of Darren Helm in that he has skill, is fast as balls, does all the little things right, and makes good decisions. He should be an elite PKer and a solid 2nd-3rd tweener for this team, maybe even more.

The easy transition comes from Hartford playing the exact same system as Torts. Praise? Sure, but on the other hand, any farm team with half a brain would do the same. As for if they have been very successful in improving their players, I leave that open for debate.
I think it's just that this system fits Hagelin's strengths and playing style like a glove, making the conditions ideal for his development.
What I find kind of surprising is he was a +12 in Hartford in only 17 games. The next highest rating on the team was a +7. How is that even possible? He must have been doing something very right defensively
Boyle is getting points because of Hagelin and mitchell's great play. He's still stinking it up outside of some blocked shots. You can switch Dubi and Feds. I don't care.
He plays a fairly physical game. He's not a bruiser, but he hits and doesn't shy from contact.
He played in one WJC, but only got 4th line time as I recall. I think he's improved to the point where he could be invited to play in the WC.
OG? Not so sure. He'll have to show more at the NHL level I think before he'd get that honor, but I could see it happening. He's got some time before the next olympics, so maybe. Who would have ever thought that Callahan would play for the US in the olympics? Hagelin plays a somewhat similar game. Hard working, tenacious, with enough skill to make things happen. He's not as physical as Callahan, but he's a faster/better skater. He has a high hockey IQ and is very good defensively.
Gritty along the boards protecting and fighting for the puck... But not what I would label a big hitter.... Hagelin is the type of player with good fundamentals who would throw a hit to separate a player from the puck to create a turnover or steal it....

In an article out of Ann Arbor they interviewed one of Hagelin's childhood friends in Sweden and the guy was explaining how when Carl was about 18, he had a big growth spurt and his body really matured to enable him to become the player he is today:
Quote:
A growth spurt around age 17 helped propel Carl’s speed — his newly-bigger body combined with his work ethic resulted in a lethal combination.
“His legs just got so explosive,” said Johan Ryd, one of Carl’s best friends and a Sodertalje native. “His last year of juniors back home, he was just unstoppable on that big ice. He has worked unbelievably hard to become a great skater. But he has that magical burst, that first couple strides that not a whole lot of players have. That came somewhere when he was 17, 18.”
This was the speed that propelled Carl up the Big House stairs as a freshman — and every year since then.
I really had to rewatch that Mitchell goal a few times to appreciate just how awesome of a play Hagelin made there. First the deke to get away from the defender and a deceitful little pass that absolutely no one on the Pens saw coming. So pretty
We need to start a charitable fund to get Loffen a new computer so he can continue making his excellent videos... Would love to see a Hagelin video come the end of the year...

Who knew too much hockey porn could cause a computer to break

All of which is great, but is absolutely not an indication of how he'll handle a full season of professional hockey, which is not only a longer season but a heavier workload.
Again, not saying he won't be fine. Just wait and see.

No kidding, I think I've watched that goal 20 times by now.
I expect Hagelin to move up in Rangers hierachy quickly.
Averaging something like 11 minutes / game and producing like this?
From a Swedish perspective this is a very interesting tendency. Players like Landeskog and Hagelin playing junior hockey in North America developing Much better than Swedish juniors playing in Sweden.
I expect more young Swedes to play junior hockey in North America, that's for sure. Especially with guys like Landeskog and Hagelin leading by example.
It's nothing suprising really because there IS a big difference between the hockey being played in Sweden vs North America. If really the NHL is your dream/goal and if you are mature enough to live on your own and speaking another language, go! Tough? Yes! If failing you always have the option moving back to Sweden trying to take a spot in SEL.
The University system in the USA and Canada are way ahead Sweden if looking from a strict sport perspective. As an athlete you have much better possibilites in North America combining studies with your sport at a high level. Much more fun too, playing for huge audiences with a great media interest.
Hagelin is pushing Callahan levels of hard work on the ice.
But he is a rookie. Rookies always work harder than vets. I want to see him maintain Callahan-level intensity for a few years before the two are compared.
Speaking of which, Callahan is on pace for 37 goals after more than a quarter of the season. He is slowly becoming the new Graves.
