Bruins actually chose sending him to Colorado because it would give him the best chance to win. He also wasn't a rental. He didn't win in his first season there, he played a full season to win*
His "first season" there was a trade deadline deal and 14 games. He tried to coast in on their success. He failed then came back for a final shot after losing to Dallas in the conf. finals. That was the storyline of the playoffs and I'll be damned if the refs weren't buying into the poetic justice aspect. We had just gotten ours - now it was time for Ray to get his. *vomit*
Whether his former team was in favor or not doesn't change the fact it was a sellout. He became and instant bandwagoner of the worst type. 21 years with the B logo magically deflated in an instant when you pull on the other sweater for a 14 game instant lottery scratch-off.
"Rays final shot at the Cup - which he deserves more than any other human being." Blow me ESPN. How many times do you think they reworked what Thorne was going to say when he lifted the cup?
It's like those competition shows where people try to deflect their own motivations by telling sad tales of how their mother or father died last year and they would have wanted to see them win to gain the judge's favor. Gimme a break - man up and win without taking shortcuts.
Yes - I hold grudges forever. That's why Kerry Fraser will be cursed to the day I die.
2001 Game 6
Holik takes a roughing penalty 29 seconds into the second period down 1-0. Niemenen scores on the power play at 2:26 to make it 2-0. Final 4-0.
2001 Game 7
O'Donnell takes a high-sticking penalty at 5:51 in the second less than a minute after Tanguay has made it 2-0. Sakic cashes in on the power play to make it 3-0. Sykora scores on the power play after Messier's high-sticking penalty to make it 3-1 and completes the scoring. Messier and Arnott take coincidental minors at 12:23 of the second. Third period penalty taken by Blake is killed. White takes a high-sticking penalty at 10:32 which becomes a 4-on-4 when Foote holds the stick at 12:11. Stevens takes a tripping penalty at 14:42.
You could just as easily say that if Sakic had been even close to 100% (he was playing with a bad shoulder that made him miss games earlier in the playoffs) and had Forsberg that it doesn't even get to 7.
Anyway, Devils should win this one pretty easily. And hopefully by a lot so changes are made at the coaching level of the Avs...
So is the general consensus of Joe Sacco is that he sucks among Avs fans? I'm surprised he wasn't fired last season. I'm seeing Deboer fired from Florida, and I don't know if it was whoever was coaching Edmonton or what. A couple guys fired the day after the season ended. Marc Crawford was another too. I'm betting Sacco would be socked out of the bench, but it didn't happen.
Come on guys we won again 2 years later, and won the year before. The only thing I'm bitter about is Brodeur couldn't beat Roy.
If you want me to be honest I'm a hell of a lot more bitter about getting beat in the 1st round in like 5 games by Philly in 2010, and 2004, and all the times we got eliminated by Carolina. Still pretty bitter about 08s playoffs too!

Moan about the reffing all you want, but don't spew nonsense about Bourque trying to coast when he originally asked to go to Philly only to have the Bruins send him elsewhere. Playing for Colorado was never his choice.
