Ohio State coach Mark Osiecki, who has coached Merrill before in international play, said after Michigan's 4-0 win Sunday in Cleveland at the Frozen Diamond Faceoff he thinks Merrill is the best defenseman in the country. Pretty high praise for a guy who has only played four NCAA games this season, but Merrill is certainly one of the top NHL prospects in college hockey.
Love that.

You know what? I almost don't want to know what Merrill did now.

Whatever he did, he earned his suspension (and the lengthening of it) but has done everything right since in the eyes of his coach.

He has moved on which is a great sign.

I second this.

I`m just happy everything seems fine and it really looks like he learned his lesson. Moving on. Can`t wait for him to turn pro. Probably still *two* years away though.

He plays a similar style to Lidstrom, but that doesn't mean he'll be as effective as Lidstrom. Temper the expectations.

If Lou is smart (and I know he is), he'll hang onto Merrill.

If Merrill's head is screwed on staight, I think we all know what he's capable of doing. There's just a great calmness to his game, where it almost looks like he's not even trying: thing is, that's far from the case. He's just so smart out there.

I wanted Russo last year. Isles nabbed him in the third.

True. Especially with zaj, henrique and jj down the middle....could convert him to wing as well. Smart player.

Merrill's passing is very similar to larsson's. Very crisp and always on the tape...

It's nice to have good bottom 6 forwards in the pipeline too. Maybe he could even exceed our expectations like Henrique.

I'm really hoping he turns into a PP QB in the NHL.

Merrill will fit perfectly... shot right into the pads of someone in front of him which in turn led to the empty net

I thought Merrill played a decent game tonight. Appears to be getting better in the d-zone. His positioning has improved and he's very good with his stick. Not very physical, but that's not his game. As always, makes good decisions on the PP. His instincts in the 0ffesnive zone are very impressive.

Merrill and Larsson are going to be anchoring our blue-line for at least four years. Hopefully three times that.
