Ari has racked up 9 straight wins since starting 3-3 w/ Metallurg Magnitogorsk. Also, don't ignore his earlier part of the season w/ KalPa. Maybe like some other Goalies, he's a late bloomer.

P.S. I see Petr Vrana (still Devs property) shown there with a PPG season, not bad, but of course it's not the NHL.
He's also small. But Lou should sign Ahonen or at least give him a tryout. He was first round talent and he still has a chance to make the NHL.

Probably doesn't mean much, but it's nice to see Boucher even in a game where his team gets shutout.

Wouldn't hurt to give Ahonen a tryout if he wants one. There was no way he was playing here way back than with Broduer eating up all the games, and he didn't really get a chance to develop much here either. Glad to see he is having some success.

As for Vrana, I bet he could cut it offensively in the NHL, but I don't know if his all around game would be good enough.

Vrana would have to make the top-9 to be feasible, and that's not in the cards right now. Maybe in a few years, though.

I laugh every time I think about Ahonen potentially returning to NJ, because I'd have to stop using his name as a verb to mean "getting exiled in the minors because of excess depth until you bust."

@MichiganHockey: Michael Spath at The Wolverine said per Red Berenson this morning sophomore Jon Merrill will not play this weekend

@MichiganHockey: Spath: "Didn't sound super optimistic (Jon Merrill) will be back anytime soon either. Might have to push his ETA back to late January."

**** me.

What the hell, this is getting ridiculous. Did Merrill smoke up again while he was with the WJC team?

Sounds like there's a legitimate chance he'll miss the entire season, the way it's going.

Just devastating.

You can say whatever you want Trotts, but this is terrible for his development.

While it may be terrible for his development as a player hopefully it takes steps towards developing his maturity.

This almost sounds like a blame the victim not the Culprit.....

I would like to see him play, but regardless, most of us are not seeing the picture here that Merril obviously did something wrong, and he should rightfully carry the brunt of our anger....Not Michigan.

There is nothing stopping him from leaving Michigan...He could have left at any point....

Sure it could hurt his development, or set him back, but he did whatever it was to himself. Who's to say that if he had done whatever it was he had done, he would be able to play in the O?

Still amazed how tight lipped this has been....

Well obviously. But this kid isn't irredeemable. And because he is so damn talented, we really want him to pan out.

I don't understand what possible reason there could be for allowing him to play for the US, but not for Michigan.

Ahonen is to Devils hockey what Munson is to bowling.

I still stick to my guns that he should have left Michigan when this first happened. He looked pretty good at the WJC and I can only imagine how much better he would have looked if he had been playing competitive hockey for the season.

He's still a very promising prospect, and to suggest otherwise is a bit extreme. While he looked rusty at times in the WJC, he displayed a lot of what got us so excited about him.

Rust doesn't bother me in a guy who hadn't seen game action in months.

But **** me, I want to see him play.
