Think of it as adding him to the trade package, but I think Anaheim wants to limit how much cap they take back if they deal Ryan.

Just a different scenario... How to make the deal without sending much cap back to Anaheim... you could also find another trade partner and send them Stafford... but not a lot of teams can really take on 4 mil in cap flat.

Sorry if someone posted this,

http://watch.tsn.ca/featured/ - If you go to the "No shortage of suitors" video, Bob McKenzie chimes in a bit on the Ryan situation.

If watching the video is too much effort, he says that:

- Buffalo, Philadelphia, Toronto, Vancouver and Nashville are the "teams who could be interested."
- It is not imminent. Says no team is close.
- The team will be looking for young, NHL-ready prospects, or young players in the NHL already.

Kuznetsov is a risk, though, with him already being a star in the KHL and the last reports coming from Russia. Don't know, if the Ducks would be jumping at the thought of trading for him as the main piece.

Anaheim needs a defenseman in the worst way. If Washington wants Ryan, Anaheim should demand one of Carlson/Alzner as the principal. If the Caps don't like it, too bad, no deal.

Bob puts it best -- we need to ratchet down that this is imminent.

They need scoring depth atleast as badly as they do a d-man, if they trade Ryan. They're already 29th in GF/G.

Their forwards after Getzlaf, Perry, Selanne and Koivu, if Ryan is gone: Cogliano, Beleskey, Hagman, Maxwell, Smith-Pelly, Macenauer, Andrew Gordon, Blake. Ugh.

Maybe this has already been mentioned, but the fact that Myers is set to make 12 million next season probably means the Ducks wouldn't be interested even if we were.

Their offensive depth is poor, but their defensive depth is nonexistent. Visnovsky and Lydman may be gone after next year. Then who do they have? Fowler? And who else? It really is that bad. At least they have Holland, Palmieri, and Etem on the way, and bottom-6's are fairly easy to rebuild through free agency.

Don't forget Sbisa. He's still only 21 and has 138 games under his belt going into tonight. Vatanen is a pretty solid prospect D-man too and if the draft shakes out like it looks like it will, they'll land another to build around. Not to say the cupboard isn't thin, as it is, just not completely bleak.

If the Sabres are offering up prospect or young d-men, any of Sekera, McNabb, or Pysyk would be in play. Given how the cap hit is, Sekera makes sense for Buffalo but I'm not sure he's the first choice for the Ducks, nor enough to offset someone else's offer (like McIlrath for example).

The Ducks need someone who can penalty kill. Beauchemin and Lydman are playing almost five minutes a game each shorthanded.

The guy who probably makes the most sense from their perspective is Weber. They probably wouldn't want Sekera and given that PK depth is already an issue I can't imagine Lydman being traded at all.

It's actually kind of strange that the Ducks didn't see this coming. They lost Lilja and Sutton (both regulars on the pk last season) without replacing them with anyone who can fill their spots on the roster.

Schultz is one of the most promising PMD prospects currently not in the NHL. And speculated by many fans to be the reason why the Ducks could afford to trade Gardiner. Vatanen was IIRC honored d-man of the year in the SM-liiga and is another promising PMD. Plus they've got Sbisa. They could use another two-way/defensive d-man though, if they don't re-sign Beauchemin.

I think Paul Hamilton made a good point on the Schoop and Bulldog show today. He said that McNabb can do just about everything. He can hit, he can play D, and he is pretty good in the offensive zone. I don't think we have a player in the pipeline that can do all those things other then him. I'd be hesitant on shipping this kid out.

If we bring in Ryan, Stafford is definitely being shipped out.

Well with the Ducks hiring Boudreau in the same press release as canning Carlyle, I think the Bobby Ryan talk comes to a screeching halt for a while. But I guess we'll see.

I would add Stafford and take out the 1st Round pick. That would be nice but unlikely.. oddas are there going to get first rounder, 2-3 young roster players, + prospect...

Last night a team interested in B.Ryan and talking with Ana said based on asking price a coaching change was more likely.

We need to all get off the Ryan horse here. It's not happening.

Everyone is hyping this up too much, I doubt Ryan will be coming to Buffalo, in fact I doubt he will be traded at all.

Hesitant, yes. Allow him to be the difference between getting Ryan and not? No. I'm fascinated by McNabb's rise from 2nd/3rd pairing defenseman in Rochester to near untouchable in a week. And I've always been one of the biggest McNabb backers on the board.

With the Boudreau hire, I don't see Ryan going anywhere.
