Sure, but I'd say his value is slightly below Gaustads...mainly cause of Gaustads faceoff ability + PK ability....

Also, this is probably one of the only players I can see Darcy throwing Kassian in a trade for. Big Power Forward vs Established Big Power Forward.

Non trade-deadline, I'm not sure.

Claiming Ellis? Signing Nolan Pratt.

Paille in 09. I don't think he's acquired a player midseason via trade since the lockout.

It'd certainly be using Burke's playbook against him (i.e., using the media to trump up the value of players).

It should be noted that Botta has a ton of connections to the Islanders. It's likely that he heard this from someone at the game last night.

Has anyone said anything that actually has a tie with the ducks?

The last position the Sabres need now is defensemen. The Sabres need finishers and/or centers. How often do we see Sabres players muff their chances and hear Ruff say in his post game press conferences 'we had good looks, we have to score on those." Getting a D or another 15 goal scorer isn't going to change anything here.

He's dealt guys, but his last in-season acquisition that wasn't deadline driven is pre-lockout.

Edit -- looks like May for Sanderson. That's a loooooooong time.

Not that I've seen, but Botta is very well connected, and very trustworthy. He would not have put it out there unless it was solid.

I know, right? 11 years? We've been very patient with Regier.

Something around Sekera, Stafford + for Lydman, Ryan?

I like Sekera, a lot, but seems like a good piece to try and get better at forward.

The fact that Darcy doesn't tend to make in-season deals is a very valid point, but he's always been pretty handcuffed because of the lack of dollars. When was the last time Darcy had an owner who would sign off on taking on boatloads of money if it meant making the team better? There's definitely something to this.

I'd be absolutely ecstatic, pending the terms, if it was a Ryan deal but I'd be really excited about getting Toni back. Having his defensive-minded, veteran presence would be so much less infuriating than having Grags out there. It helps he's played with Regehr, too.

Something else has to happen as neither of these gets us out of salary cap jail.

It's not like he's jumped on the idea of making any change, even affordable ones, between the start of the season and the trade deadline. This would be a departure in how he operates beyond just money.

Granted, there's no saying this is a large deal. It could be Parros or Brookbank as depth/toughness moves while they have injuries to deal with.

I brought it up not because I don't think it will happen. It was in response to a poster saying when do we ever hear about trades Darcy is going to make before he makes them. Its been so long since he's been involved in an inseason trade like this (if one happens) that its impossible to say if we would be hearing of it or not.

In another words this is fairly uncharted territory with Regier and we have little past history to go on.

The last time rumors swirled were around Gilmour and Gratton -- both were mentioned at times more than a year before they were acquired at the deadline.

Correct, Bobby Ryan plays primarily LW.

The Parros/Brookbank type deal makes more sense to me, especially with the way Botta put his tweet about Bobby Ryan perhaps not being in the deal.

ding, ding, ding.....100% correct. Over 4 years of their bs is enough.

Come on, please be true that it is addressing the grit & skill in the top 6 for Ryan. I still believe 100% that Miller is involved and it will be for Hiller/Ryan --- Stafford/Miller/+.

Get it done Darcy! I've got goose bumps thinking we make an inseason trade to address team chemistry and needs!!!!! Make him do it Pegula!!!!
