I've decided to move on from the possibility from this point on. Only way to avoid extreme disappoint with the likely outcome.

It may be the only way for buffalo to be in the picture with Buffalo's limited cap space, and the combination of Anaheim's budget restrictions and the number of contracts that they already hold.

We don't have young centers or center prospects to send West, which makes think a few other teams could give Anaheim more what they want.
That's what has me worried. I'd imagine Anaheim would like to find a young guy they could slot behind Getzlaf as their 2C for years to come. We simply don't have that guy unless we're giving up Adam, which then makes our center depth even worse.

My biggest fear is that Burke offers a package of Kadri + Bozak + Aulie + 2012 2nd. I think Anaheim would take that package with the presumption that Kadri is a future 2C; Bozak is a quality 3C; Aulie is a big, young, and cheap defenseman; and the pick is value added. Which will make us all regress into "Why can't we have nice things?" mode.

I think we're more likely to hear about deals from Pegula-era Darcy - we were hearing about the Regehr deal for a day or two before it was officially done. It wouldn't surprise me if confidentiality and secrecy take a back seat to getting the deal done these days.

The possibility of a meaningful trade before the New Year is tough to wrap my head around.

isnt TO hurting on Centers as well? Or is your stance that Burke is bold and brave enough to worry about the center position later? ..just get his guy.

I'm not going to speculate at all, still adjusting to the Pegula era lol. In fact until this spring when HFers on here were pining for us getting Regehr or Ehrhoff (I know Chain in particular was) I can't recall any of our offseason speculation coming to pass.

BUT... I"m surprised no one has mentioned Koivu more. I seem to remember Regier trying to acquire him once or twice (maybe even as recent as this season or last season?) - at least that's what the rumors and speculation I recall. It seemed like Regier was/is really high on Koivu.

If it was a three-way, I think this is fair:

To ANA:

Drew Stafford
Tim Erixon
NYR 1st
T.J. Brennan

To BUF:

Brandon Dubinsky
Matt Beleskey

To NYR:

Bobby Ryan
while i wouldnt mind getting Dubinsky for Stafford... I'd hate the idea that we were the equivalent of Erixon and a 1st away from getting Ryan...

My stance is that Burke always wants the best player in the deal. He doesn't worry about other things. They're scoring enough with Grabo-Connolly-Bozak in the top-9. They get Ryan and then recall Colborne to take Bozak's spot. And they'd be better for it.

I think id part with Adam to grab Ryan ... address center later ..even next year.

Adam for Ryan is more than enough reason to try Ennis at center.

Would anyone have interest in moving Pominville or Vanek for Ryan?

One thing not brought up yet is I believe Anaheim is at the limit of 50 contracts given out. So any team taking Bobby Ryan can only give up 1 player under contract unless Anaheim throws some AHL bums in the mix.

That would take Pysyk, Kassian, and McNabb out of the mix unless we take on more players.

Right?

No way, they've been our two best forwards this year BY FAR.

Right?
Etem's contract slides though, so they're at 49.

Vanek for Ryan is a no brainer... Ryan is the better all around player. signed for less. signed longer.

In Pominville's case... I think you may as well blow the whole thing up if you trade the guy you just named captain.

What about Roy?

I might move Pominville... But we have to move Stafford in another move to add to our scoring. Ryan > Pominville but IMO it doesnt put us where we have to be. IMO We have to move Staffords contract out of here asap.

What do you mean slides through?

K so If Ryan is the only guy moved then they can take on a maximum of 2 contracts.

But really, I'd do either one without much hesitation, though trading the guy with the C seems unlikely. Hell, throw Roy in the mix too. Core/culture change trumps center depth, at least in the short term.

Seems like a lateral move in terms of productivity, especially in regards to goal scoring and Vanek. Sure you'd get tougher and bigger swapping Pommers for Ryan, but what kind of defensive responsibility does Ryan bring to the table ? As soft as Pommers can be he does bring some qualities I do like to the table. I'd rather see Ennis, Stafford or Boyes moved. Obviously we're adding more for Ryan.
