I like Brassard, don't get me wrong, but I wouldn't give up a whole lot for him. If we're trying to establish a hardworking, strong forechecking identity, I'm not sure Brassard fits into that. He's not a cream puff, but he's not much of a battler. At least from what I've seen of him.

Get Brassard and put him in a package for Bobby Ryan.

Brassard is making 3.2 milion/year for the next 3 years. That's an expensive reclamation project......

Maybe Wolski for Brassard +?

Salary would have to go the other way for sure.

Brassard isn't what we need. 3 more years - pass.

See, here's the thing - a Bobby Ryan trade is pretty much the only thing we should be looking at right now. I honestly can't think of anyone else who's been rumored to be available that would be worth breaking up the current team. If there's some other young top line or top pair talent that's available that I don't know about, then great - but otherwise why would you mess with what the team currently has going?

The only other trade that might mike sense right now would be a solid vet D-man for a reasonable return.

Then maybe a Selanne tyepe veteran winger at the deadline.

The Rangers’ discussions with Anaheim this week regarding a possible trade for Ducks’ winger Bobby Ryan never reached the stage where the clubs exchanged proposals, a source familiar with the situation told The Post before the Rangers’ 5-3 victory last night over the deficient Hurricanes.

The Ducks, who have taken Ryan off the market at least temporarily after dismissing coach Randy Carlyle and replacing him with Bruce Boudreau, never identified the players they wanted from the Rangers. In turn, general manager Glen Sather never made a concrete proposal, though it is believed he established general parameters about which young men he might be willing to send west.

The source told The Post that if the Ducks later this season seek a bounty for the 24-year-old power winger including two prime players off the NHL roster, a prospect and a draft choice, then the Rangers will not be acquiring him.

But thats what Anaheim wants. Hit a home run. A deal too good to turn down. The Rangers aren't giving them that.

Carolina is going to shake up their roster

9 scouts at RBC tonight: WSH, OTT, VAN, TOR, NSH, COL, CHI, CLB, LAK, DAL. Apparently 12 in Charlotte last night. Vultures circling.

Tonight being last night.

Rutherford warned Kaberle on Carolina sports radio. What is Rutherford going to do to Kaberle? They aren't sending him to the AHL with that contract. Carolina is a budget team. Didn't Rutherford watch Kaberle in Toronto and Boston? That's Jimmy's problem. He has his son as his AGM and surrounds him with former Carolina players. They all think the same. He hired Muller because he wanted he ideas.

Walsh shouldn't be mad at Columbus for anything. They gave his client a ridiculous contract which makes him untradeable. That's the problem for Columbus. They have too many bad contracts on that team. Vermette. Pahlsson. Brassard. Long term deals. Their roster is locked in. They don't have much flexibility.

I'd take Ruutu from Carolina if the price was right.

Gritty player that can play LW. Would need to ship Wolski out to accomodate the salary (as well as other assets)

This is assuming Ryan is not an option

I feel bad for anyone trading for Ruutu.. Sure, he scores some goals, but they rarely look like things he intended to do. A goal through the five hole, whoops I was trying to hit the top corner etc.

As a Finn I've seen enough of him to appreciate his hustle and borderline dirty hits, but this guy will never give you consistent scoring..

Unless those players are Wolski and Christensen, I don't think anyone will. Anaheim is asking a contending team to dismantle their team to accommodate a guy who doesn't even make those around him better. I like Ryan but let's be honest, he's mostly a goal scorer.

For Ryan I'd give up:
Brian Boyle
Dubinsky
Erixon
1st
and a Conditional 2nd if we get to at least the ECF

too much?
although I really wouldnt call Boyle a prime NHL player lol

And even non contending teams are going to be warry of giving up their best young players for 1 guy. If they continue to slide their desperation will only go up, until they are out of playoff contention, in which case it would be in their best interest to just trade him at the draft.

I would be interested in both Allen and Gleason depending on the price. Solid veteran defenseman.

What about this:
instead of giving up MDZ, who is mostly playing well, and with Dubi not a good match for Ducks as to Anaheim cap, and us not having extra prospect Ds to give (we're keeping McIlrath) how about a three way?

Dubi to LA for one of ample D + picks,
which is sent to Anaheim for Ryan
Rangers add Christian Thomas to Ducks...
I had to double check the user name on this one. This is, without a doubt, the most sensible proposal you've ever posted.

The only problem I see is that LA is right up against the cap. If they are taking Dubi, they'd have to send out one of their higher priced dmen, either Doughty (not happening) or Johnson (probably not happening). I don't think Mitchell, Scuderi or Greene get it done.

Or, they'd have to send a younger, cheaper dman and additional salary. Maybe Voynov + Stoll.

To LA: Dubi + Valentenko
To Ana: Voynov + Stoll + CT + NYR 1st
To NYR: Ryan

I'm not sure if either LA or the Ducks would do that, but I don't think the value is too far off.

Brassard is a really talented player, but that contract coupled with his injury history makes that a no-go for me.

Nothing from Carolina I would want that would realistically be available.

Big no to Kaberle. He's either lost a few steps, he just doesn't care, or both, and I want no part of that contract.

I'll say it again Allen for Wolski. If they want a Dman back too then our buddy Stralman is already gone. EC of course would be a throw in anywhere

Would freaking love Ruutu coming over. He would fit perfectly

Going to get interesting cause if Hagelin and Mitchell keep this up they are going no where and Rupp and Wolski are back soon

Did you watch him at all last night? He's awful defensively. Rutherford cannot give him away right now. Best move Sather made last year was not giving up anything resembling an asset to bring in Kaberle, especially considering that the Leafs good back a #1 and a good prospect in Colborne. Follow that up by not pursuing him this off-season.

That's too much. I know Boyle is replaceable, but when you give up both Dubi and Boyle you start to mess with the chemistry this team has built. Boyle has a good relationship with a lot of the guys here.
