Team Sweden U20 Roster - Czech Rep/September

Bendelin has selected a new team. Only 3 players from U20 Summer Camp are on it.
Too bad Johannes Salmonsson did not make it, I guess he is still recovering still. Nice to see Robert Nilsson there though, hopefully he'll have a good tournament.

Nice to see Robert back into the team, but why select Andreas Simensen ??? Is it because his father work together with Torgny ?? He should not be in this team !!!
Imagine how will the players in the leage react when hi is selected to attend.
i hope yoy all aggrea with me.

I agree with you on this one. But hey, it´s not the first time this has happend. They allways seem to select players that have been memebrs of the national team program in the previous years, like the U-16, U17, U18 teams. Some players develop later, but it´s much harder for them to get a chance to play for the national team.

One example. Björn Svensson. I have no idea why he is on the team. I saw him play when he was 15, 16 and I have seen him this preseason as well and he doasn´t look like he should be on a national team. While a players like Marcus Olsson who has been a force with the MIF J-20 team for the last 2 years has never been selected to play with the U-18 nor the U20 teams. Why?

I have talked to Håkan Andersson, Detroit Red Wings scout and he has also been upset with the selection of the national teams. He had some ideas for how to do it and why it would be better but I don´t have the strenght to write anymore..

I guess Bendelin wants to try as many players as possible... but seriously....
this team will be beaten silly. I don´t want to mention any names, but seriously Torgny could have found some better players of available who didnt play in USA, Grand Forks.

I like the idea of trying completely new players, as Torgny is very satisified with the team. But seriously, some of these players have younger equliants who are better.

What do you guys think of Bendelins strategy of trying as many players as possible???

Im not too happy with this team to be frank. Should we send a team who is this weak????? I think we need to continue winning like we did in Grand Forks. I hope this is the only tournament we send a weak team like this...
Bendelin probably wants to make sure he knows he got the best players in JWC, and he doesnt want to miss a potential Nicklas Grossman(who was quite anynomous before that U19 tournament last year).

I was wondering that myself why Marcus Olsson wasn´t selected to the U18 team at any point... its a bit weird.

But couldn´t you tell us what Håkan said and what ideas he had about the national team? Im dying to know...

instead of Simensen, couldn't they test Bobbie Williams since other WHLers are on the roster? From what I have heard Williams did pretty well last season, despite limited ice-time and not a lot of points.

Simensen

I'm not surprised at all and I don't think anyone around the league is either. It doesn't mean that he should be in the team because this is a joke gone terribly wrong.

He could have tested some other players before Simensen and some others as well.
But there are some interesting names on this new roster. No question about it.

What happens to guys like Ericksson, Soderberg, Fransson and Hedman?

I don't understand why they're not in that tournament, they are all under U-20
and in the top ten of Elite Prospects in Sweden.

Vipers,
Coach Bendelin wants to test new players, that's the reason why the more well-known players were left off. This roster mostly consists of players that he wants to see more of, to see if they have what it takes basically.

I heard talk about this last season because a lot of people really don't respect AIK's coach Bobo Simensen. Let's just say he doesn't treat all players the same way.

Bendelin is just going to test other players in that tournament and he dosn´t care of the results. Players like Nilsson has prove themself reliable otherwise they will not join the team later.

nice to see emil axelsson on the roster. but i think carl gunnarsson is pretty equal to him and although being born 87, bendelin should give him a try. what do you guys think?

I'd rather see Gunnarsson than Axelsson since I think he is the better one of them two. However, Gunnarsson is born 86 and not 87

First of all, do you know how they select these teams. Once in a while they go and see some games but mostly they´re sitting in theire office in Stockholm and working the phones, talking to the coaches around the league. They ask the coaches if they have any players for the national team and if the coach says that they don´t have then a player isn´t selected. Even though he should be on the team, remember last year when Calle Söderberg wasn´t on the team despite being the best player in the J-20 league... This is scary that it can be done on this level!

Just imagine how it´s done in Canada? Do you think that they only relay on some phone calls when selecting theire team? Don´t think so!

As I told you before Håkan was very upset with this and he told me that most of the NHL scouts were. His idea was to let someone of the Swedish NHL scouts select the team, because they know all the best players in the country in and out. They go around the world looking for talent and they see what kind of competition they will face and therfore they know what kind of team to select. I think that they would do a better job than Mr. Bendelin.

oh, he's a late 86er? hehe. and i wouldn't say he's better. both are different types of players. i wouldn't compare them.

Uhm, Salmonsson is supposed to play against Almtuna tonight. That should mean that his shoulder has healed and so on, so why didn't he get picked for the next u20 tournament?

I don't know if anyone saw the link I posted on the other U-20 thread about the Eval. Camp....but there's a bunch of pics of the games...including Sweden and Finland here: State of Hockey. The little chicklet, beetsjeep, who took the pics did a bang-up job.....so cruise over and take a look....
