Has anyone tried Newcastle's fall seasonal yet? Werewolf red ale. Not impressed.

sadly, i'm on beer lock-down. i've dumped about $2500 into my car in the last two weeks and have (probably) a torque converter issue looming (find out tomorrow when i take it in for a $130 diagnostic at Maplewood Audi...barf). Not gonna pay for it if it's over a $1k. i'm just going to try to dump the car off on a dealer and get a new one. Probably a subaru. I have a $47k car that i've put at least $15k (i'm afraid to add it up, but it's probably over $20k) in repairs into after warranty. Don't let this happen to you, because you will find yourself pledging to do stuff like give up beer until the crisis is resolved.
i will be lurking this thread though to live vicariously, so please do try everything new.

A new bar opened up nearby called the World of Beer. I joined their "club" for $15, which gave me two "free" beers that they had on tap. The first one I chose was St. Bernardus ABT 12, and damn it was delicious. I tried two other beers there, but that was amazing.

I had a similiar experience with my last car, which was a 7 series. Bet I put $20k in that thing in five years. It finally just started on fire. Like you, I prefer luxury sedans and if memory serves you used to drive a 3 or 5 series. Why are you now considering a Subaru? Think my next car might just be an Accord. Sick of all the expensive repairs on these European autos.

Edit...nevermind my reply. Thought I was talking to Jarick.

Been there too. Had a 330xi, my dream car, that's the one where the tranny went out, both front CV joints, tree branch fell on it, lady backed into me the MORNING AFTER I BOUGHT IT, ignition went out, brake lights stopped working, and a bunch of other stuff I can't remember.

Fingers crossed, my Honda...so awesome.

I loved Werewolf last year. But I'm trying to avoid beer until I drop some more pounds.

Yeeeeaaahh, it's not bad by any stretch. I'd never go running for it though. I will give credit to Newcastle as being my "gateway beer." It's what got me started on the journey of beer appreciation. It's like drinking candy for me now though, kinda like how Tabasco is once you start getting into habanero sauces and "food additives."

Same for me, Newcastle was the gateway beer. It's a little too watery for me now and usually tastes a little stale (like pretty much anything in a clear bottle). On tap it's actually a pretty decent beer though.

I'm actually working on my homebrew homage to Newcastle. It's essentially a Newcastle clone, with a bit more EtOH. Turned out well as an extract ale, now I'm gonna try all grain.

If I ever get into homebrewing, I might bug you for the recipe. Or maybe I'll have to buy a growler off you

Actually if you do get something and don't mind sharing the recipe, my gf's dad homebrews a lot, wouldn't mind seeing what you did.

Is it bad that I'm excited to go to get my growlers filled/have a couple at Town Hall; in like a week from today?

Love their beer.

Be up in a month. Does Surly have a tap room? I obviously won't take a growler to or from Phoenix but would like some pints of greatness.

I dunno but you can get Surly in most stores. Keeps very well in cans. Pick up a few 4-packs of Furious and Bender, maybe some Hell or Coffee Bender if you're feeling naughty.

At Santa Fe Brewery tonight in NM. They have a decent IPA called 'Happy Camper' I'm drinking tonight.

Usually do get some Furious when I'm home. Top five IPA's in my opinion. I visit many brew pubs in my travels. Colorado brews are off the charts but Surly is right there with them. Just check out beer advocate for proof on that.

Last interesting beer I've been drinking is a 1/3 IPA, 2/3 Benny's Bock at Granite City.

Cool article in the Strib today about a brewmaster from MN encounter with Obama. Who knew Obama brews in the White House. In entertainment section.
