Pre-Game: Morning Skate Report at 1 p.m., Pre-Cap Podcast at 2 p.m., John Walton’s one-on-one audio with Dale Hunter at 5 p.m. on washingtoncaps.com, Two-Man Advantage at 5 p.m.,

Pittsburgh Penguins (14-7-4)
Washington Capitals (12-10-1)

Quote:
“It’s going to be all right,” says Caps right wing Mike Knuble of the change. “You’ve got to break a couple of old habits and start some new ones. It’s good; you get a game in and then you have the tape to go back to and he can draw up the things [Hunter] noticed from last night’s game and show us today, what he’s talking about.

“I don’t think it will be too hard. It’s just a question of trying to break some habits. He’ll probably try and run us through some drills to help that. You could see at practice [Wednesday] we did some chips off the wall and things like that. That’s what he wants to see more of, plays down the wall. It’s just changing some thought patterns on guys a little bit and playing the way he wants to.”

Well, if there's any opponent that'll get the players' heads out of their *****, it's Pittsburgh.

Pretty much taking the next 10 games or so with a grain of salt considering the coaching change/systems change though would like to see a gradual adjustment evident in the games.

Can you imagine a game where Sid is held scoreless while Ovi scores a hat trick in route to a Caps victory. Now that would be a night. We could loose the next 10 games and I might not even care.

Of course it's not going to happen so I'll just settle for a secondary assist from Crosby, a goal from Ovi, and a Caps win.

I wish more on here would follow your lead, even a little bit would be nice

I think its age . When you been a Caps fan since '89 you've seen this story before and not only with your club. And no...watching the Caps that long does not give me any more cred than younger fans. One can simply recognize the patterns and take that for what it is worth. Everyone here is welcome to their opinion. My only hope is people here is that people debate the opinion and not the poster.

It's depressing to consider that the Caps have been around for fewer than 40 years and already are on their 15th coach.

Yea probably so, I've only been a fan since the 98 run (only 20 years old)so maybe I should have a little less patience... maybe fit in around here a little better.

Carlzner needs to be in together and playing well tomorrow. Also I'm hoping to see a little more structure on the break out.

Other wise hit some Penguins show some effort and I'm decently happy

This one will be over early. Still unlearning and learning, still trying to find confidence. The Pens are in a nice groove. Mismatch.

Practicing those chips heh, that's the new breakout play I saw last game. No game with our firepower should be over early, and if there is one game a coach doesn't have to motivate our players, this is it. I think the players will look more comfortable on offense, whats a breakout plan? on defense. 5-4 caps.

Early O/U on our total PP time: 2:00

In Boudreau's final 13 regular season games against Pittsburgh, Washington went 11-0-2.
You'd figure the Pens are due?

I posted this last night in the non-Caps thread, but since the GDT is up and running

Simon Despres called up by the Pens and expected to play in his first NHL game tonight. Second game in a row Caps are playing a team with a rookie dman making his debut.

If Dale directs our dumps and forwards at Despres, I will be thrilled. Something Bruce never seemed to do, yet I think its a great strategy. Dump it in the corner of the savvy vet, or the greenhorn? I will be watching for it.

I liked what they did last game. I think the effort was there (I know some will disagree here). I just want to see steady improvement. Lets generate some offense, win board battles, and get the puck out of our zone quickly.

PP's: 6-3 Pens, Crosby draws 2 (1 dive)
Score: 4-2 Caps, OV with EN.

2 fights: Hendricks and Hunter (Erskin bothered by shoulder thing) taking on Asham and some other D-bag.

Time to man up! **** Pittsburgh!

This surprises me. I was not surprised they hadn't changed last game but I am a little that they haven't for this one.

All in due time I'm sure. I was convinced Knuble, a serious Pen killer, would be back up on the second line. I'm sure there is a plan though. I bide my time.
