Ducks hiring AHL-level position in San Diego?

https://twitter.com/mayorNHL/status/...247296/photo/1

John Hoven (aka "The Mayor") adds fuel to the speculation that the Baby Ducks will somehow be playing in San Diego this coming season, leaking an internal job posting for an "Executive Assistant" providing "day-to-day administrative support for the AHL Team President", adding in bold and underline (not my emphasis): "This position will be located in San Diego"

Discuss (and feel free to move to the Norfolk thread if that's more appropriate)

Does this mean we won a trade? Otherwise I'm not interested.

Nice. Glad to see something is finally happening. It'll be nice to have the Ducklings closer to home but the SDSA is a tired building.

It doesn`t say it`s for the Ducks, what if that is other team? Maybe Florida

It's supposedly an internal posting in the Ducks organization.

It does say Anaheim Ducks internal job posting.

The SDSA is an old building, but it has the size to house an AHL team. San Diego definitely has the population. I seem to recall a mayor's manor post saying there may be some ice issues in SD. Anyone know anything about this? They had ice making capability during the WCHL years...

I can't speak for the Sports Arena, but I'm a hockey instructor in San Diego and most of the ice here is fair to good. (KROC Center, SDIA, Iceplex, Icetown) really the only terrible ice is the sheet in the UTC Mall.

Here's the quote I was talking about. Apparently not a deal breaker:

Quote:
As expected, Anaheim would like to put their team in San Diego. However, there are “building-related issues” with the former San Diego Sports Arena, now the Valley View Casino Center. Those issues (which, allegedly, include the refrigeration system) are not said to necessarily be deal-breakers, but would need to be resolved and fairly quickly.
I suppose refrigeration system could mean A/C or Ice. Not very specific.

It's been quite a few years since they've housed an ice rink. I'm sure the whole system would be replaced.

San Diego Shockers? I don't know, but I'm definitely going to try to be a part of the organization.

Could revisit the Gulls name, depending on where the rights to the name stand. Still a bird name, so it keeps with the NHL franchise name.

I work with the Gulls, still not the same talent as the OC or LA junior programs but there are plenty of legit prospects coming through here.

Did Thatcher Demko play with the Gulls?
