So, i'm heading back to Toronto the first week of march, and i'm looking to watch some junior hockey while i'm in the area (of course)
my last visit was 4 years ago and got my dose of NHL games, so this time i'm thinking i'd like to have a look at the junior league, and AHL
OHL is a priority, but even OJHL is intresting, and maybe GMHL or WOAA sr hockey..i know you guys may think i'm wicked, but i'm one of the guys involved in the site eliteprospects.com which mean i'm pretty much a hockey nut..
any tips or recommendations is helpful - which cities is possible to reach from Toronto (by train or bus)
and is it some place i can't miss??
I haven't booked any places for stay or anything, i just bought the plane ticket, i know i'll be there at least

Assuming you're only using public transit, you can get as far as Barrie or Oshawa on the Go Train, or a little farther by VIA rail. Paradoxically, Brampton and Mississauga will be harder for you to get to because transit between the suburbs and downtown is so terrible.
If you're willing to take the train, London, Guelph and Belleville's arenas are within walking distance of the station. London's the farthest from Toronto of the three and the train trip is about two hours one way.
If at all possible, renting a car will give you way more options. Half the league is within a two hour drive of Toronto, so you pretty much have an embarrassment of options if you can get yourself around.
I wouldn't recommend watching the AHL in Ontario unless you really want to, or have no other options. The Marlies play to an empty house most days and the Bulldogs' arena is just too big to have atmosphere even when there are 6,000 people there.

Don't waste your time watching the GMHL, better off to watch some Junior B hockey. I played 2 games in the GMHL and it was like playing Midget. No contact, terrible reffing and the coaches scream and their players and rattle the door handles.
I'm all for going to Ottawa a couple of days at least, i noticed the Sens had a game while i'm in the area so i just have to watch them if i can find tickets for a nice price (stubhub or even sens forum here?)
Too bad the 67's is out of town though.
I'm from north of sweden so going by train is nothing new to me, i have 6 hours by train to Stockholm - and i don't have a license to drive which makes it kind of easy to choose transportation
My mind even wandered into going to Buffalo but that belongs to another forum i guess

Any thoughts on taking in some GTHL hockey? Playoffs should be finishing up, so you should see some of the top 15 year old in Ontario. Its better hockey then most of the leagues you listed.

Definitely! Try and see the Toronto Marlies and Mississauga Rebels. Some very high-end talent on these teams. You won't regret it. Just google GTHL Game Center to track down their schedules. Enjoy your time in Toronto.
The Olympiques host Drummondville on March 2nd, Victoriaville on the 4th, and if you're still going to be around, Quebec on the 11th!
Also, the QMJHL > the OHL. The OHL just looks like giants playing hockey really slowly.
First of all I'd like to say, try and get out to London, Kitchener and Oshawa for the best OHL experience. If you want a guaranteed ticket (row for that matter), it is easy to get to Brampton and Mississauga.
Or do what I do, check the opposing teams coming to play in the communities close to Toronto with the best prospects (Swedes, whoever you are most looking forward to seeing, etc) and just take a quick trip there.
As for the QMJHL>OHL - I don't think I need to point out how many players from the OHL are playing in the World Juniors compared to the Q, do I?

London is a good experience... for the OHL. I was really disappointed last month by the library that Peterborough now plays in. What happened there?

I find the QMJHL much faster than the OHL.
As for the WJC, I think Canada would have done better if they hadn't have snubbed the Q.

Some games of interest depending on when you will be in Ontario
Saturday March 3rd Ottawa @ London
Sunday Marth 11th London @ Kitchener
i've been glued to the OHL area and travel guide website last couple of days.
that site is awesome
although it requires a bit planning, let's say i go to Kitchener i would still need a place to stay for the night (hotel) and with ok walking distance since most or every game are played evenings i'm not that intrested in catching a late night train in unknown areas .
which means i've been using google earth a lot as well just to have a clue about where the arenas and the cities are.
there is one thing i do know.
i'll be somewhere around toronto for 6 nights, and i have a VERY open schedule, nothing planned so far
So i've made my plans but i decided to stay in Toronto this time around
and since i'm a sportsnut i just got tickets to marlies-amerks march 3rd and also NBA tickets same weekend..i know..i'm weird
but i still hope to find some more hockeygames so feel free to pm me if someone will be making a day trip or something for a game outside town and i'll gladly join up to talk hockey and hang out, i'm up for almost anything!
