Ivan Barbashev vs Jared McCann

Which one of these centers would you choose in the summer's draft and why? Both are similarly ranked mid first round territory (though McCann is usually slightly ahead) both are LH shooting, both 6'1" and both known for having a good 2-way game.

I like both but I'd take McCann because he is Canadian

I like Barbashev better. But it's close.

Very different players. McCann is a very fast skater and generates offense with his killer snapshot (think Marleau), Barbashev prefers to do his work along the boards and is more of a playmaker (think Krejci). I think McCann is a superior prospect, but I'll admit I've seen him much more than I've seen Barbashev

Barbashev. McCann fell short of my expectations this year.

Barbashev. He's one of my favorites in this draft.

Barbashev is nothing like Krejci. He doesn't look to pass first and isn't a finessse player. He drives the net hard and plays really physical. He is great along the boards, especially behind the net and can score from tight areas. He is big, good skater, responsible defensively and can score in many, many ways. Potential looks like a 65-75 pts 1st or 2nd liner that can play physical and creates a lot of scoring chances. He's more of a winger too.

Barbashev seem very legit and so does McCann but I rather hav Barb any day of the week. I'm becoming a big fan of is, hopefully he can be drafted to the right team and become a star. I just don't see McCann being more then a 2nd line at best. I would bet that McCann become a 3rd line center while Barb become a top 6 foward while playing some PP. So in another ward Barb Ainec.

You mean extrem lite Mack, maybe !! But even then I don't think so. Does he have the skill to be a top 6 player yes but he'll need to work very hard for it. Even then, he's better suited for bottom 6. By the way maybe Sean Couturier lite.

Really not a fan of McCann I think he ends up being a decent 3C like Pahlsson or something

I agree with ya but only a certain aspect of your sentence. I believe McCann will have a better career then Phalsson. But should be a decent 3rd line center like a Martin Hanzal.

Krejci is a very good player along the boards, he does a ton of work behind the net. Barbashev from what I've seen is definitely more of a playmaker than scorer, he scores goals when he has an opportunity in close but he definitely looks to pass more than shoot when its a coinflip moment. I'll defer to you though, you obviously are more well-versed in the Q than I

Hanzal is a 2C not a 3C. Zack Smith is the comparable i always go back to

Pierre, is that you?

I would take Barbashev. He's a quieter player than a guy like Ehlers, but IMO they're on a similar tier offensively. Barbashev still needs to work on his shot, because it's nothing to write home about, but everything else he does is elite or just about elite; he might very well be the best playmaker in the draft, and considering there are guys like Milano, Reinhart and Nylander who are also primarily playmakers, that's very high praise.

Even better, he plays a very NA game. He's tough along the boards and very responsible defensively. And he's stepped up when it counts the most.

I love the kid, and I'd take him top-6 in the draft, ahead of Draisaitl. I think he could be a 60 point player in the NHL (I consider myself a realist in terms of projecting point totals for prospects).

I was thinking of Zack Smith but decided to go with Hanzal since he's a true number 3 center and not a 2nd center, just like Patrick Berglund. It's not cause a player is playing top 6 minute mean he's a true Top 6 forward. Some team are simply weaker at certain spot and stronger at other. Are you telling me that Malkin a 2nd line center cause he's playing on the 2nd line.
