So we got Hunter, and I have seen some good and some very bad in his coaching. As of right now, it sure doesn't seem to be working, but I do not want Boudreau back.

Am I shocked that he's got the Ducks rolling? No. But I've seen that movie before and as I recall, it ended in tears.

I still think McPhee sucks and should go, but I would prefer our next GM find a new vision for this team rather than reverting to the one that failed year after year in the postseason.
When Bruce made Hanlon's trash play like gold, it was easy to say Hanlon was the worst coach in the world and that anyone could have turned it around. Now he's taken over for a cup winner and done the same.

The Caps failed in the playoffs, but it wasn't because of the coach. Are we going to hire Bruce back? No. But I would bet we'd be doing better if we'd never fired him, and if we'd gotten Semin a 2C at some point my guess is we'd have come a lot closer to that cup.

Meanwhile, back on the thread topic, FLA's put 41 shots on Anderson and are losing 5-2.

We'll never agree on Boudreau, but we do agree on this.

As for the cup winner thing, shouldn't that be easier than trash into gold? These are proven guys, they know how to win, they'd just stopped hearing Carlyle's message.

But of course, players who tune out their coach are just lazy spoiled brats, so that can't be it.

Capitals need to have a Florida trip this weekend like Ottawa just had. Ottawa in back to backs, defeated TB last night 4-0 and are on their way to another one tonight.

And the Ducks? Should they have fired their players when they started sucking under Carlyle?

In all seriousness, this argument always confuses me because teams with the same roster turn things around under new coaches all the time.

I think the bottom line is, with no one better out there, I would have rather taken a shot with Bruce to figure out what needed to be done, and given him the time, rather than do what they did. That is, assuming putting the right roster together is out of the question, as it seems to be with GMGM.

i think the point is that many nhl coaches are disposable. there are some that are not and recognizing that is helpful. it could be that bruce boudreau is going to be the best coach available to the capitals for a long time to come and maybe they should have stuck it out with him.

how many coaches could nashville have gone thru by now had they been so inclined? how many would have been as good for them as trotz?

Oh god! With the exception of Columbus, all the teams under the Avs are within ten points of them. If Giguere is out for more then a game or two it could be top five pick real quick!

As much as I'm glad he's gone and always wanted him out, I agree.

But you guys really need to put some context to this new love affair.

Part of the reason Boudreau is winning is because he's been given permission to play run and gun hockey. I have to admit I'm discouraged when I see stuff like the Ducks being 13-3-3 since new years but I have to imagine that things wouldn't be much different if he were here.

Starting to look like McPhee is the problem and even though the trade deadline gives us hope we still have to realize that it gives us only a little over a month to reap the benefits.
