No Hearing for Whitney

This is my angry face.

Lats gets boarded. No penalty, no suspension.
Falk gets charged and his head targeted. No penalty, no suspension.

Now this?

WTF.

I can't access twitter from work, so if a mod wants to drop in Russo's tweet about this... please do.

Is anyone actually surprised by this?

Shanahan is a ****** who managed to lose all credibility within a matter of weeks. The new CBA absolutely needs to have supplemental discipline revoked from the league.

Oh well. I wonder if Butcher pissed everyone off with his vicious baseball swing. We should trade him, he's ruining our reputation!

At the very least, I hope somebody made Whitney aware of his dangerous play.

You don't just trade away someone as physical, vicious and mentally unstable as Killer. He might not take that so well, and an angry Killer = decapitated teammate and/or coach.

Solution: call up Cuma the next time we play Edmonton. Cuma has bad knees, so any incident wouldn't have any malicious intent. Line up RNH and see what happens.

Not surprised. It wasn't overly dirty but I sure as hell hope he at least got a phone call.

Oiler fan coming in peace.

I was at the game last night and it looked bad from the nosebleeds.

I saw the replay today, and I believe Whitney SHOULD have gotten some discipline. Shanahan began the season with a zero tolerence attitude that has evolved into the same old chicken-bleep inconsistancy that we have had in the past.

While it seems extremely unlikely that Whitney would attempt a dangerous hit; (he's coming off of a knee injury himself); I believe that Whitney should be held accountable for the hit.

Here's hoping that Clutterbuck is back soon, (and I don't even like him.)

Yeah I don't think Whitney was thinking 'Oh man I'm going to knee clutterbuck right in the leg!', but rather he just tried to get a piece of him however he could, and that went badly. Not malicious but not a smart play.

Thanks for being a sensible person and NOT hoping Clutterbuck is out for an extended period of time, unlike some fans out there.

I don't think that Whitney necessarily needed discipline on this hit, but Shanahan needs to have a hearing and issue a video as to why it's not a suspension. It was a penalty, and Whitney should have gotten 5 and the game for it last night, but with the obvious lack of intent, and the borderline "well you should have done this instead" situation I can't get too fired up about him needing discipline.

Instead of reviewing it closely, then determining it non-offending and issuing a statement as to why, Shanahan is giving the impression that it's just not being looked at. Odds are that someone in his office reviewed it and said "let's not go further," but the public impression is simply that Shanahan doesn't care about kneeing. Considering his atrocious record vis a vis the Wild, it just seems that Schizo Shanny is incapable of performing his basic job functions.

Would LOVE to see a video from Shanny. Would happen if we were a Canadian team...

I've changed my mind. Instead of running only Whitney over with a Zamboni, how about including Shanahan there, too? Clutterbuck can drive it, with Bouchard on board with a stick in case they survive.

...Someone needs to photoshop that.

Well, no real surprise.

Meet the new boss. Same as the old boss.

What a ****ing joke officiating at all levels is becoming. This is almost NBA-like in its inconsistency and hypocrisy.

I'm more upset that it wasn't a penalty during the game.

Meh, not sure why anyone woulda be upset by this...I see no intent at all in the play, looks purely incidental.

I wouldn't have had a hearing in Shanaban's position either.

If it were Sid the Kid who got taken out, we'd have a different outcome.

Shannahan is probably like those Eddy posters who think just because Cal plays physical hockey, he had it coming to him.

it was as incidental as a high stick at least. I mean, Whitney was trying to hit him. What if he had accidentally elbowed him in the face while trying to hit him with a clean hit? just because it was inadvertent doesn't mean it shouldn't be a penalty or more. Evidently kneeing isn't in the same category of importance as head shots.

Maybe we should experiment with slough foots next time? Just to test the boundaries.

Compare this to the PMB suspension and it's exhibit A that there is still much inconsistency in the NHL's discipline room.

Except there's no excuse for a stick going high... there is for his leg being where it was. IMO it wasn't Whitney's leg that went out but Cal that tried to cut across to where Whitney's leg already was (as Whitney was bracing himself to lay a clean shoulder check).

Sorry, I can't even say it was penalty worthy.

I think there was some kind of intent there, but I doubt it was to knee him. Like the Eddy posters say, he had a knee injury himself, so why would he be trying something that would reinjure himself? No, he was trying something else and got handcuffed when Clutterbuck unexpectedly moved.
