Not just saying it because of the ridiculous passes he made today, but because he is consistently tape to tape on the vast majority of his passes. That spinning pass is nothing new from Callahan. It's amazing how accurate he is, especially with that move.

I disagree, but the fact of the matter is the guy doesn't have "stone hands" like everybody always tries to say.

He's really worked on his passing, and it's definitely a plus aspect of his game now.

From third line grinder to elite playmaking winger in 1 day, this basically sums up our fanbase

Lol pretty much. Bring it down a notch, Ranger fans! He played a great game today but best passing winger? No, I don't think so, sorry.

He's always made great passes. I've never seen a game where he's a negative on the ice. What's amazing is he's 26, the captain of the NY Rangers, and I STILL don't get the sense that he's hit his peak. Constantly improving.

Elite playmaker? We'll see about that after this season. Above average in every area of the ice? I'll give you that gladly.

I disagree. This is the first time I truly saw playmaking abilities from Callahan.

I honestly never thought he had any passing skills because a lot of his passes are very easy to make and he never seems to make incredible plays. He also has shown a shoot-first mentality throughout his career.

If he can continue to develop his passing skills that just makes him that much more of a threat.

I don't care how many people disagree with me. This guy is an awesome passer. Period.

A personal favorite!

Not yet, but he has come a long way. Callahan was all heart since day one as a Ranger, but his lack of hands and finish in his first season was frustrating. Glad to see he's come a long way and has blossomed into the role as the team's most important forward. Take note on not to write off a player's potential that quick.

Cally's passing has definitely improved but there are plenty of passing wingers out there that are superior to him.

Unfortunately, we will be seeing one of them tomorrow in Claude Giroux. Luckily Jagr is out, he's one of the best playmaking wingers of all time.

Not to get off topic but I still can't get over it... Sanguinetti over Giroux.... At the time it wasn't such an obviously bad pick but wow does that one hurt now.

Again, I wouldn't give him that deadly HFboards title "elite", but he's certainly a spark plug. He looks to find the open guy every time he has the puck, and is usually crafty enough to get it to him. I noticed it when he came back from that injury last year, and all through this year he's been making ridiculous cross ice passes that rarely go anywhere but tape to tape.

Yeah but the problem is you can't lump everyone into one group. It's not like we all collectively get together and determine what our attitude toward the Rangers is going to be this week. A handful of people feel one way, and another handful feel another way. Not to single you out, but everyone who always makes these "bipolar fanbase" comments makes it seem like every single fan topsy-turvys after every game, which is not the case at all.

Callahan never was consistently a good playmaker until this year. As others have said before me, he has worked a lot on his passing and his vision has improved.

But best passing winger? Not by a longgg shot.

This could not be further from the truth.

Callahan had an amazing game tonight with passing but passing is definitely one of his few weaknesses.

He's okay. He isn't consistent enough and for every good pass he makes, he makes a few bad ones. He's progressing, but nowhere near being the best passing winger in the league.

No offence, but this forum really jumps the gun with new threads. Every goal brings a countdown to 50 thread, every win brings a Cup thread, every loss brings a "bad team" thread. Now Callahan gets 3 assists and it's a best passer thread. Our fans need some green tea or vanilla chai or somethin...

My own opinion on Callahan's passing is it's underrated, but not great. I'd call him an above average passer.

While I agree with most folks here that he would not really rate as a top passer league-wide, I remember noticing and remarking a couple of weeks ago that his playmaking has definitely improved. I saw lots of examples during the winning streak before his game tailed off (along with the pretty well the whole team) in Montreal.

Make no mistake, the OP is onto something. Callahan is improving his game. That pass to Richards was one that many players cannot make. I really hope to see more of them, and I think we will.

Nope, I'll go as far as saying he's not even that good of a passer.

This thread is ridiculous.

Not ridiculous to see that Callahan is improving his game, and that his skills are growing.

Nothing ridiculous about that, at all.
