My weird pre game superstition is that if I play on weekends I have to have Lucky Charms with chocolate milk, I didn't eat it one game and had a horrible game and ended up with a suspension! So thats a must have now
Growing up as a goalie always ate three hot dogs with a bottle of coke and always talking to the posts (like good save or please help me out guys). Now as a forward I always bring a old stick to the rink so I can stick handle before the game. now when warming up i always am the one to greet the goalie when he first gets to the net has been a habit.
i was always a creature of habit.. got to the rink at the same time, listened to the same songs at the same time, same exact stretching routine off the ice, left side of equipment first and first one out of the locker room and last one on the ice. didnt feel like superstition, just creature of habit.
I think I might be the only person that goes right side first. I'm not superstitious about it so much with equipment than I am with my skates. If I go left skate first and start lacing up my right skate, I'll take my left skate off then right, then start putting on my skates again with the right skate.
Always the same off- ice warmup, Put the right skate on first, but laces the left first, then always left skate fender, sock, shin- and elbowpad first. When I enter the ice I always start skating to the right, the last puck I touch during the warmups has to be in net, sometimes the last three or something if I have to compensate for missing a penalty shot.
I have to stand behind the net while gathering up before pucks drop.
None really. I put equipment on in different orders each day, don't follow any stretch, etc. I guess every warmup I come out realllllly slow and just start flicking the puck up and feeling a feel for it
I used to eat a bag of skittles before everygame. People said it was a sugar rush but it never seemed to ware off during games. Other than that playing hackey sack before getting dressed and doing the same routine of stretches before and after each game.
I try to take a snapshot bar down first shot. If I do i haven't had a bad game since I started doing that. (learned how to take a proper snapshot 2 seasons ago/Major bantam) and if I do I either don't play good or we lose.
Always left side equipment on first. Always skate directly up the red-line at some point in warm-up (normally right at the beginning). Always tape and wax my stick before a game, unless I scored the game before in which case I don't re-tape my stick. Stretch on the blueline right in front of the bench with my d partner on my side towards the red (facing across ice).
If I didn't take a shower the day of the game or for some reason have gotten even a little sweaty before a game, I'll shower up. I just feel off if I'm already sweating or greasy before I get my gear on. Don't know why, I just do.
Jock, socks, pants, skates (left then right), shin guards (left then right), pull socks up, shoulder pads, elbow pads (right then left).
My high school games were always on friday nights. For lunch I'd always get a personal pepperoni pizza, go home, nap from 2 to 430, eat 2 powerbars on the drive to the rink (always by myself), and I always took the back way.
Stick was always taped heel to toe, alternating white and black tape jobs (white one week, black the next).
For games, I'd always tie my skates standing up, facing the bench... not sure how that one got started.
