This partially in reply to ILCN (get better <3), but I'd like to point out that I think Ottawa will definitely be drafting a goalie this June.
We need to have something to fall on if Lehner ever had a freak accident or something. Nonetheless, NHL teams should not be operating with only one legitimate goalie prospect.
The question now becomes where? I'd tend to believe it would be a later (5th, 6th, 7th) pick, but maybe they see someone who they like and go with him.
Haha thanks . If we don't draft a goalie Murray had better pluck an undrafted FA 'tender or two up at least. I could see him going after Altshuller if he drops to the 3rd round. BMurr has made it pretty clear he's only going to draft a goalie early IE first two rounds if he thinks he could be a game changer. Subban imo is the only potential game changing goalie in this draft and I think he'll be gone before we draft in the 2nd round.

Agreed. I'm hoping Monahan keeps growing and can end up at 6'4 or something. Imagine him going beast mode at that size.
I'd much, Much, MUCH rather Subban than Altschuller.
I don't get all the hype surrounding him. Maybe it's just because he was insanely mediocre during his Minor Midget year.
Yea same. I got to see him a bit living in Nepean and I never understood why he was so heralded. I just see him as a possibility for us because of GMBM's history of drafting local kids and the need for a goalie. He might aswell do both at the same time haha.
But if i had a choice I'd go Subban 10 times out of 10 over Altshuller.
Speaking more to the media crap. Anything that puts PK in the spotlight more when we play them will make me cringe.
I literally get angry when I see the poster with this avatar...
I'd throw darts at that.
I love P.K.
I partied with him a few times when I was in Belleville. He really is a d-bag, but a fun and funny d-bag. Their's a major difference between arrogant d-bags and d-bags like Subban who act like a d-bag but does it in a way that doesn't turn as many people off.
6'2 is about as short as I go with a goalie these days.
I know it isn't impossible for shorter goalies to thrive...but when drafting goalies I'll play the percentages. 6'3-6'5 is where it's at.
The more net they cover the better. Most of goaltending now is just being in the right position and covering as much net as possible...and letting the puck hit you.

Agreed
It seems to be the way drafting goalies is headed now. So many 6'3+ goalies coming through the draft in the past few seasons.
Will be plenty of undrafted skilled smallish goalies avaliable to sign via free agency should the Murray's decide thats a route they would like to explore.

Sounds like you partied with PK Subban the 2nd round pick. Not PK Subban - the toast of Montreal.
He just has one of those outgoing personalities that rub some people the wrong way. He really is a pretty chill dood, and yea, he has a swagger about him but that's not really his fault, just natural charisma.
Outside of Subban and Artshuller I like what I've seen from Val'Dor's Francois Tremblay, just seems so big and calm in net.
Also if Murray wants to draft a local kid and not spend a high pick Gatineau native Francois Brassard on Quebec is having a good season, often times even playing the big games over Domingue from what I hear, seems to be flying under the radar a bit.
As far as the WJC goes, looks like there are alot of note-able draft eligible players to watch this year, here's what I got so far, I'm sure I'm missing some so feel free to add, there are still a few teams that don't have a final roster yet.
Team Canada:
LD Ryan Murray
LW Tanner Pearson
Team Russia:
C Mikhail Grigorenko
LW Nail Yakupov
Team Sweden:
The Triple Berg's
LW Pontus Åberg
RW Sebastian Collberg
RW Filip Forsberg
Team Finland:
LD Olli Maatta
Team USA:
RD Jake Trouba
Team Czech:
C Radek Faksa
RW Martin Frk
Team Latvia:
C Zemgus Girgensons
Not familiar with any prospects on teams Slovakia, Switzerland, or Denmark.
One guy that I think will fall in the draft rankings, due to his mediocre play thus far is Matia Marcantouni. He's averaging 0.5 PPG for the Rangers, and more was definitely expected of him production wise.
If this guy falls to the 2nd or 3rd round, it would be awesome to jump on this guy. Easily one of the fastest players I've ever seen with exception to perhaps Ho-Sang this year. He's one of those guys who I see being a boom or bust. He's got the speed, he's got the size and frame, he just needs to put it all together.
I wouldn't write him off as a 3rd liner either.
Also, if http://www.mynhldraft.com/NHL-Mock-Draft/ that scenario came true, I would pee my pants. Gaunce would make up for my sheer disappointment of being too good to draft Monahan next year.
If you haven't noticed yet:
Ryan Strome is to CPM as to
Sean Monahan is to Manked
Here are some players that aren't oft mentioned that could be some nice pickups (I'm only looking at OHL here):
Scott Kosmachuk (Guelph)
I'm pretty big on this guy. I see him as more of a bottom 6er in the NHL, but he does have decent hands and speed. He's 4th on his team in scoring this year, very good for a 17 year old.
With this being said, there is one mind boggling stat. He is a -20. While the Storm aren't overly great this year, the next low is at -12, and then -7. Scoring leader Zack Mitchell is an impressive +9, so I'm not sure why his stats are so low. I think I'm going to watch a Storm game in the next coming days.
Andreas Athanasiou (London Knights)
I was lucky enough to get to go to a Knights game in London last year, and this kid came out of nowhere. Most of the players that I were familiar with in this age group I knew from various Toronto tournaments and the OHL Cup, but I had no clue who he was.
He impressed me to say the least. It seems like I'm saying this quite frequently now, but he's one of the faster players I've seen. His top speed is unbelievable. 12 Goals in 33 Games is pretty impressive, especially because he's playing on arguably the best team in the country, and often the young ones play a lot less.
Adam Pelech (Erie Otters)
While I'm not going to say extrapolating really tells anything, it is interesting to look at Pelech. On an Erie team where Connor Brown is a -43 through 33 games, Adam Pelech's -2 in 10 looks amazing. That would roughly put him at -6 for the season, which would make him tied for the team lead.
From what I remember, this guy is the last person that you'd expect to be an offensive defenceman. Shutdown D, focuses primarily on his own zone. AND HE SHOOTS LEFT. By the way, the last Erie defenceman to be selected for the Top Prospects game was Brian Lee. The Brian Lee, however, that was selected in the third round by the Anaheim Ducks.

I've watched a bunch of Kitchener games this year and definitely agree with this assessment, the kid has some serious wheels and you can tell the skill is there, just for some reason he's having trouble finishing. Would definitely take a flyer on this kid if he slipped to the 2nd/3rd round. Granted alot of the time when I watch Kitchener lately Radek Faska seems to stand out more for me, just seems to be all over the ice and creating chances, but I see him as more of a late 1st.

Really looking forward to this game! Alot of players from the West and the Q I still have yet to see play will be there.
Definitely a fan of Kosmachuk, seems to have great hands and is pretty built for a smaller guy, he looks alittle slow out there sometimes though from what I've seen.
I've been a fan of Athanasiou since the U18 back in August, kid seemed to come out of no where, great wheels, great hands, seems to be a threat everytime he's on the ice. He's not very physical though, definitely could stand to bulk up alittle, but I'd be more than happy with taking him if were picking in the mid 1st round, I don't think he makes it to the 2nd round.
