With Goligoski and Daley Returning Soon - What to do with the 8th D?

Daley and Goligoski are set to return sometime on this 5 game road trip that starts next Thursday, 12/8.

The easiest solution is obviously just send down Philip Larsen. Then, you have to decide if Fistric or Pardy is going to get the bulk of the games. Based on recent history, Fistric has probably edged out Pardy.

However, Gulutzen did say Larsen is NHL ready. You'd obviously like to see more than 2 assists, but he could force the Stars' hand. If he does, what is your suggestion for getting to 8 D?

Last question, another right shot D would be nice, Goli plays the right D just fine, but I'd like to see him on the left. Daley is obviously not a concern at all on the right IMO. Sarich in Calgary has apparently asked for trade. If they'd take Pardy back, which would seem like a stretch given the extra year on his contract, would you take that?

My guess/hope is they send Larsen down and the team considers the Sarich trade.

Larsen could technically be NHL ready, but the PP is going to be some combo of Goli, Robidas, Daley, and Souray with everyone healthy. I'd just prefer to see Larsen keep playing well in the AHL.

When consider a Sarich trade, I really like Fistric's game right now, but another veteran D could be very beneficial. Plus, you get a right shot to pair with Goli. However, Pardy straight up for Sarich seems like a stretch, and I don't think I like the idea enough to give up another asset. Just keep the pick/prospect and roll with Fistric. Call up Larsen if there is an injury. Pardy can still be the 8th option allowing Larsen to spend the majority of his time in the AHL.

I was looking for a bit more realistic.

I've made the case before that I think GM Joe would trade Robidas, but I tend to believe that type of scenario would have to play out at the draft or during the summer unless the team was looking for a shake up.

I imagine any move at this time would be relatively minor. I think regardless of our opinion of Robidas, we have to admit trading Robidas would probably be a huge shock to the team like the Neal-Goli trade last year. If they are in a bad slump, I guess it could happen.

Awful is Scott Gomez's contract. Pardy's is an obvious mistake that honestly doesn't really hurt the team. It's short term and not for the kind of money that handcuffs a team.

Like a said in the Trade forum, you don't want to pay $2 million for a 7th D, but it's not going to hurt the Stars long term.

I'd love to trade Robidas for a hge return while his value is high and the rest of the league still thinks he's good, but it won't happen. He's a leader in the lockerroom and everyone drinks the Kool-Aid in the organization too.

Larsen will probably get set down, which is a shame since he's been so good. But a little extra seasoning never hurt anyone. He'll get a fulltime spot next year.

This is what will happen, and it sucks.

They should waive Pardy and scratch Fistric.

They should trade robi, leave fisty in the lineup and have pardy as the heathly scratch/7th d.

best option. I don't see how we could scratch Fistric, he is playing very physical hockey right now and is doing pretty well.

I agree with trading Robidas, would be the perfect solution. Problem is his value, like Morrow's would be higher closer to the trade deadline.

The other problem is that this team relies on Robidas too much to trade him. He may not deserve the quality minutes he gets, but this is the third coaching staff to lean on Robidas like he's Bobby freaking Orr.

Then it's up to GM Joe to take away the crutch. Coach can't use him if he's not there.

Trading Robidas is ideal but I think that only happens at the deadline or this summer. If they can find a sucker for Pardy, great but his cap hit all but precludes him from being waived. They'll send Larsen back down though he's done nothing wrong, go back to scratching Pardy and hopefully by February this will all be sorted out with Robidas gone, Pardy as the 7th and Larsen in the lineup full time.

Sending Larsen down isn't that bad of an option, it might even be one of the better options. Now hold on for a minute and let me explain this before you all lose it.

Injuries happen. What are the chances that all 7 D in front of him stay healthy for the rest of the season? It is better to have the depth of an 8th guy that can come up due to injuries. A little extra seasoning won't hurt. The rest of the D in Austin are either on their first year there and thus should get the full season or are AHL guys that probably won't become regulars.

I'm not so sure that Robidas wouldn't be traded. Nieuwendyk has proven capable of making shrewd pickups/trades and also knowing when players are past their prime. I'm not saying it will happen but given how well Larsen has played I wouldn't be surprised if Robidas were traded.

Being a bubble team this year as well there needs to be one specific directive IMO - find out just what exactly you have in the younger guys. Larsen needs to have a good amount of NHL time under his belt before they're going to be willing to just toss him a regular spot in the lineup out of training camp next September. He's good enough that he can not only not be a liability right now but he can be a help right now. He seems to have a pretty mature read on when he should sit back and when he should press the issue by jumping up into the play in the offensive zone. He's really at the point where he needs the NHL experience to get better at that part of his game, something that he can't get in Austin.

So Goose and Daley are back ....

Now we just need Shanahan to make a call on Fistric. The AHL team apparently sent Coyle to the ECHL today. The blogger that follows Texas speculated it's to open up a spot for Larsen to return.

I don't want to sound crazy, but we don't exist in a world where Larsen is going to be the healthy scratch in favor of Pardy, right?

Early on that happened, but when Dallas had an extra D recently, Pardy was the scratch. That has to go back to being the case, right?

So ....

Goligoski-Larsen
Souray-Robidas
Grossman-Daley

You think they'll go back to the regular pairs? Or ....

Goligoski-Daley
Souray-Robidas
Grossman-Larsen

I think that might be very interesting. I've wanted to see Goose with Daley.

Id never thought id be this happy to see daley back but souray and robi haven't looked good recently... id love to see goli/daley play together and get the lions share of the minutes

Id like to see Goose-Daley and Larsen-Souray as PP pairs too
