Unless the Avs somehow hired a goalie coach two games back, the Avs have no goalie coach. Who would you want for a goalie coach? Also, how much do a NHL goalie coach gets paid, on average?

Probably totally impossible, but how about Kari Lehtonen?
The very guy you have been clamoring so hard to get fired from his position as head coach would be a good goalie coach?
We Avs fans are among the few that truly understand the role of goalie coaching in a goalie's success. Even the Philadelphia Cheesepuffs (Flyers), at the heyday of their goalie graveyard days, routinely misunderstood the role of a goalie coach, even though they seemingly always had the money for one.
I worked with him a lot during the summer when I was playing and he was awesome.
Really? Heard a LOT of bad things about him, from Nucks fans. Take it for what it's worth.
Kinda surprised Jeff Hackett hasn't resurfaced. I thought his firing was undeserved. It's not like anyone else has managed to make Raycroft look good, except for when the Avs are the opposition. He did a great job with Theo.
I heard McLean was called in to work with Varly when he was struggling. Seems like he was at least part of the reason the kid's turned it around recently.
We have a goalie coach, and his name is JS Giguere.
Perhaps JS Giguère sucks as a goalie coach but, if he doesn't suck as a goalie coach he just didn't fit Varlamov.

Perhaps what made Tim Thomas God in net is the Bruins' goalie coach!

Hopefully McLean will be hired full-time by the team, then.
Jeff Hackett was awesome. He must have gotten wasted and pissed in someone's beer or something after a game. Seriously that guy was good. I wonder if something off-ice happened.

Yeah I'd never listen to the opinion of a Canucks fan, but I'm also biased because I liked him, and he helped me progress a lot when I was playing.
Aside from the obvious Allaire, he would be my second go-to for sure. I think he'd be a great fit with Varly, keeping him in good position and helping progress his butterfly style without impeding his athletic ability too much.

I dunno, I think he just got cleaned out along with everyone else. The really shocking firing at the time to me at least was Michel Goulet. It's like you say, some stuff must've happened behind the scenes we don't know about.

I was thinking about this too. So if Giguere is right now the backup goalie, maybe the long term plan is to make him the goalie coach? If not, then why not? Sign him to an extension at some point and make there a clause that he transfers from player to coach at some point if he doesn't feel like playing another season. Naturally the pay level as a coach drops more or less, but still, it should be good for everyone.
Goaltending has not been an issue IMO. Giggy is basically a goalie coach as well.
Varlamov has played 21.5333 games (1,292 mins.).
Varlamov has finished with a save % of <0.900 in 43.89% of his games (9.45 games [567 mins.] / 21.5333 games).
Giguere has played 8.7 games (522 mins.)
Giguere has finished with a save % of <0.900 in 11.49% of his games (1 game [60 mins.] / 8.7 games).
Giguere receives 2.76 goals of support per game (24 GF/8.7 GP) while giving up 1.95 goals per game.
Varlamov receives 2.51 goals of support per game (54 GF/21.5333 GP) while giving up 3.07 goals per game.
Giguere faces 25.40 shots per game (221 SA/ 8.7 GP).
Giguere faces 30.00 shots per game (646 SA/ 21.5333 GP).
It's pretty clear that the team plays better in front of Giguere, at both ends of the ice. The Avalanche are only 2.5 games (5 pts.) out of the final playoff spot in the West, despite being 4 games below a 0.500 win percentage (13W-17L).
Giguere has a win % of 50.00 (4W-4L).
Giguere has a win % of 40.91 (9W-13L).
The Avalanche have played 30 games. If they had won half of them (50.00 win %), a 2 game difference than where they are at now), they'd have 30 pts. (15W-15L), putting them 1 win out of the final playoff spot.
With this evidence, I don't understand why these two shouldn't at least be splitting starts from this point forward as opposed to the current ratio of 2.75 Varlamov starts to every 1 Giguere start (22 actual Varamov starts / 8 actual Giguere starts).
Varlamov did not deserve 5 of his 22 starts...
10/15 Montreal (W, 88.4 SV% bailed out by 6 GF in OT victory over Montreal; Giguere had won the prior game with a 93.8 SV%)
10/28 Edmonton (L, 84.2 SV% following Giguere's 91.2 SV% in a losing effort vs. Calgary)
11/4 Dallas (L, 75.9 SV% following his own 88.9 SV% in a losing effort)
11/12 Calgary (L, 80.00 SV% following Giguere's 90.9 SV% in a winning performamce)
11/15 Pittsburgh (L, 81.8 SV% following his own 80.00 SV% in a losing effort)
Giguere did not get to start following his 11/20 performance vs. San Jose (L, 82.4 SV%), and rightfully so.
I agree that Giguere should get a couple more starts, but you can't say that after a bad game there should be another goalie in the net.
Often goalies can have a bad game here and there and will be better in the next. It is not that black and white that after a bad game a goalie should be benched.
But yes, Giguere should get some more starts in my opinion as well.
But Varly should get the majority. And coaches should tell the team to play well no matter which goalie is in the net.

If you want Varlamov to get the majority of the starts, that's fine, and that could still be achieved if you take the five starts I listed and give them to Giguere, which would have made it a 17-13 split to this point, which not only meets your requirement, but could have Colorado in a playoff spot right now. The Avalanche only grabbed 30% of the points available in the 5 games I pointed to (3 out of 10), and those 3 points can be chalked up to the rest of the team miraculously producing 12 goals in a two game span despite Varlamov giving up a total of 12 goals between the two contests.
Varly should be getting twice as many starts as Giggy, maybe more like 2.5 times. But we're not that far off from it and while Giggy should've had maybe 2 or 3 more starts it's close enough for it to be the least of our concerns.
it's all good that Giguere is the " part time " Goalie Coach . he worked with the best in the business in Francois Allaire.
But if our second Goalie must be the the goalie coach that says alot about our actual coach in place .
I believe you are right, but the only reason that I can even imagine for not having a full time goalie coach is that Avs wants to save money.
Theoretically the reasons can be at least
1) No right person has been found (that Avs wants as the goalie coach)
2) No-one wants to be a goalie coach for Avs
3) Avalanche believes that a goalie coach is not something you should have
What other reasons you can imagine? Out of those three, in my opinion none is a realistic option. First of all, I'm sure there's hundreds of people who would like to be NHL coaches, totally regardless of the organizations. Even I would like that, but for sure I'm not good enough. There's former NHL goalies that would like to do that and there's former NHL goalie coaches that would like to do that.
That third option is something that just takes a stupid opinion - if I understood correctly, 29 other NHL teams disagrees with Avalanche.

It's a bigger concern than you think, assuming you read my prior two posts in this thread and also assuming you'd like to see the Avs make the playoffs, or at the very least keep the Caps as far from the No. 1 pick, thus making "the trade" appear less horrific.
According to the split you'd like to see (2.5:1 for Varlamov), Semyon would start 59 games, while Giguere would start the balance (23). At the conclusion of the most recent regular season, only 13 goals started at least 59 games...

Varlamov is not in that class of goalie. He certainly has done nothing to this point to earn a 2.5:1 or even 2:1 start rate in his favor, unless you are hell bent on throwing him to the lions time and again in a desperate effort to validate the hefty price he cost the franchise.
