28. Doug Wilson apparently told Todd McLellan three days after the season ended that the Sharks' bench boss was staying. Odd that there's been no announcement, but it sounds like there is a debate about assistant coaches. McLellan would fight hard for his guys, but the discussion appears to be about adding someone who had a lengthy NHL career. 29. Last week, we mentioned Bryan Marchment as a possible contender. Mike Ricci might be another as both already work for the organization. Would McLellan, though, want to go "off the board" and recruit a former Red Wing?

I understand his sense of loyalty but he is basically putting his 'friends/staff' ahead of the team. The PK needs to improve and Woodcraft/Shaw are not going to cut it.

Has there been a brain drain over the last several years? The goal coach dies and is replaced from within. Two asst coaches leave and are essentially not replaced at all. Management spends to the cap (almost) but seems really, really cheap on the coaching staff...

Strelow was replaced from "the outside" with Corey Schwab (who was a protoge of Strelow, never had any connection with Sharks prior to that. Thomas is "internal", but goalie work is only his part time job (and he was a NHL goalie when he played).
No, I don't think they're "cheap" on the coaching staff. They had the three guys on the bench, plus video guy this past season. That said, I can see the # of "coaches" increasing (IOW, if one is dismissed 2-3 might be added).
And I would not be surprised to see a "full time" goalie coach with the Sharks this season (not just "sharing" with Worcester).

atleast the sharks have a goal coach, could be like vancouver and columbus and not even have 1.
or the sharks could be like the capitals and have a goaltending coach who has never spent a day in his life in goalie pads.
I think it's a fair assumption to think that Patty/Joe/Boyle were done at the end?
i don't know, but i think the vets (especially the captain) would be done 1st, just so they can get the summer routine back into order instead of waiting around san jose (yes i know marleau lives there full time, but thornton even if he lives here for the majority of the time, always goes to swiss for a month after the season ends).
the captain in my opinion would be 1st, just so he can talk to the GM about the other players to tell him before he talks to the other players what he actually thinks should happen. this is my thinking especially if the rumour of thornton actually not wanting eager back on this team, so wilson could of just walked into the meeting with eager and told him straight out we thank you for your time with us, but we decided we are going in another direction.

I would actually think the opposite. I think DW would be more inclined to share what he'd learned so far with the captain/assistants, and hold them out 'til last. And we know JT was here very recently because of that street hockey thing. And Patty lives here basically all the time.

I would interview them twice.

Yeah I agree. Id do 1 meeting at the beginning where I ask a lot of questions and do a lot of listening, and then a 2nd one with just the coaching staff after Ive met with everyone to discuss the themes I picked up on and ask a few follow up questions.
