He would be an upgrade to all other available options

He ran a top five PK.... The Sharks current defense is much weaker then you think

The goal should be to get a legitimate top four left side d-man that can move the puck. Then you can switch Stuart to the left to keep Braun and Demers on their natural side when they're in the lineup and you can move Murray for a draft pick. If they swung the Clowe and Murray for Leopold and Stafford trade, that would work since Leopold is a good puck-mover capable of handling a good amount of workload.

You reckon that's a Couture jersey or a Jeff Freisen?

Mclellan ran a good PK when we had nabokov. Back then we had to worry about the gaping 5 hole, not gigantic rebounds. I'd rather have that concern on the PK than the current one.

As soon as Niemi became goalie this new style started. We needed guys standing around to block shots and clear rebounds.

Watch our aggressive PK style with Niemi in net. Sharks pressure the puck, leave the middle open, lazy shot to the net, HUGE rebound to the slot, GOAL.

PollakOnSharks: And don't know exactly where Tommy Wingels finished in Masterton voting yet as PHWA, not league, conducts balloting. Should have been 1st. 6:15pm, Jun 20 from Web

jessespector: @PollakOnSharks Still think Wingels was a better pick for King Clancy, but whatever. 6:16pm, Jun 20 from Tweetbot for iOS

PollakOnSharks: To-MAY-toe, to-MAH-toe. Case can be made either way. RT @jessespector Still think Wingels was a better pick for King Clancy, but whatever. 6:18pm, Jun 20 from Web

jessespector: @PollakOnSharks I’m in favor of calling the whole thing off, for sure. 6:19pm, Jun 20 from Tweetbot for iOS

What happened to Wingels that made him deserve Masterton? I don't like it when it's given for non-hockey related comebacks or acts.

I think it's cause of his work with the 'you can play' project? I believe...

I think it should be given to players like the three nominated who got over serious injuries and came back with excellent play.

Masterton is defined as to the player who exemplifies "the qualities of perseverance, sportsmanship, and dedication to hockey."

It is not defined as the "comeback" player of the past season.

I agree, but the Sharks didn't really have anyone else to nominate.

I'd like to see it go to someone who went out of their way to help others, not just their own (albeit admirable) recovery from some injury or hardship.

Injuries are typically from last season, not this. And missing 22 games doesn't really deserve a Masterton nomination.

But you have the King Clancy, NHL Foundation Player, and the Mark Messier Leadership Awards for that.

I seem to recall Kessel getting Masterton the same season he had cancer.

I think the Masterton is a stupid award to hand out every year. Yes, every once in a while it is very fitting, but most of the time it's a stretch.

Purdy's take on Monday's presser. Headline very misleading -- thinks Sharks may deal @ draft as they need a fast (not slow) start to season (whenever it starts).

Hockey growing in warm weather/non-traditional markets. One reason - local NHL team winning. Another....

Quote:
In San Jose, the Sharks’ success has helped grow junior hockey in the area. In fact, many of the alumni of the San Jose Jr. Sharks are finding success in NCAA college hockey.

Sharks’ assistant general manager, Joe Will, believes that the success of Junior Sharks has been a contributing factor to the growth of hockey in northern California.

“I think this is a tremendous story and a great source of pride for everyone in this organization and Northern California hockey,” said San Jose Sharks Assistant General Manager Joe Will. “The level of youth hockey in the Bay Area is improving and the bar will continue to be set higher. People are noticing how many high-caliber hockey players are coming out of California, and that’s a compliment to both the players themselves and the coaches and administrators.”
