I like the Ibanez signing. The Yankees off season was quietly underrated. I LOVE the Pineda/Kuroda acquisitions as well as the Burnett to Pittsburgh deal.
I can see Ibanez absolutely murdering the Red Sox this season.
basically, Ibanez has played the field the last few years, whereas damon has been riding the pine since leaving the yankees.
So Cashman felt he'd rather have the guy with more pop and whose been actively bad in the outfield rather than the guy with decent pop who hasnt played the field in a long time.
But lets be clear about two things -- Ibanez does not draw walks and he's a horrendous fielder.
Our best chance is Nationals get last, but I honestly don't even see that as a possibility.
We have no pitching, and I say that even if Johan is "healthy", he just isn't the same.
And I almost wish we would trade Wright. He doesn't seem like a guy that would demand it, but I feel so bad for him.
we already ruined the boat with reyes. we could have gotten back 3-4 pieces for him. trading wright and reyes only would have put this franchise on the fast track back to respectability. sad days for us mets fans
Cano should be the 3rd hitter, or at least no lower than cleanup imo.
A lot of people feel the same. I guess if he bats 5th, you get more L/R balance and becomes an even bigger matchup problem, but both Cano and Grandy rake lefties.
I'm almost certain that if Tex pulls the same crap he did last season, he'll be moved down by June.
Why? What is wrong with the move? He can still hit, is a lefty bat in yankee stadium, and he can play the outfield
Ibanez is another old man. I wanted to DH Arod to keep him healthy this year. But the Yankees seem content wasting Nunez and having Arod be injured all year.
It's time for the latest edition of what Met has an injury/sicknes and how has the medical staff ****ed up.
David Wright and Scott Hairston have both been injured already before a game has even been played in Spring Training and now Ike Davis has Valley Fever.

And they wonder why they get incessantly killed.

Just once would really appreciate if the Mets aren't sure what something is that they don't tell everyone it's definitely nothing.

News story coming on Ike Davis.

Unbelievable: #Mets tell reporters Ike Davis has non-issue lung infection. Terry Collins & Ike tell team site he probably has Valley Fever.
What Valley Fever is...
"Valley fever is a fungal infection most commonly seen in the desert regions of the southwestern United States, and in Central and South America. You get it by breathing in fungal particles from soil. The infection starts in the lungs."
And this gem right out of the article on the Mets site...
"Whether that statement will be applicable each day come April is an unknown that makes his manager and Davis himself squirm. Davis is not the picture of health. He has, in fact, contracted Valley or Desert Fever, a malady that can interfere with a season and even end a career."
Ibanez is another old man. I wanted to DH Arod to keep him healthy this year. But the Yankees seem content wasting Nunez and having Arod be injured all year.
Another old man who is a lefty bat and can still hit. He will be an upgrade offensively from Posada.
Yanks top Phillies 7-4 in a Spring Training tilt. Second win over the Phils in two days. Arod looked great with a bomb and two RBI's; the homer coming off of Halladay.
Raul Ibanez is a yankee. He can make up to $4 million with incentives.

Just saw a clip of one of Montero's bombs as a Mariner. Made me almost pissed the Yankees traded him, but I am really excited to see Pineda pitch tomorrow.
I am a Mets fan too but definitely not in the root against the Yankees camp. For the Mets, I am actually looking forward to July and August and hopefully seeing Matt Harvey, Kirk Nieuwenhuis or Matt Den Dekker. It is awful being the 5th best team in a 5 team division but with Alderson, DePodesta, and Riccardi responsible for developing the players. I could only hope that by the time things get a little back on track, the Mets finances will allow them to be competitive.
As a non-Yankee fan, (note - not a Yankee hater), this is likely Mariano's last year and the team is slowly turning from that great core to players like Cano and Granderson. The financial landscape in baseball is changing and I think the Yankees will make their adjustments and field a solid team for a few more years.
But to openly root against the Yankees as a Mets fan screams inferiority complex. I've stopped comparing the teams years ago and now think of the Mets as the Royals or Pirates in the New York market..sigh!
