What an embarrassment this "realignment" plan is.
Only the NHL would approve this crap. Hell even baseball realized how stupid it was to have uneven conferences. Yet the NHL decides to have two 7 and two 8 team conferences with the same number of teams making the playoffs from each.
Awful leadership, leads to awful decisions like this. What an embarrassment. Just when the sport was growing.

TOR, MTL, OTT, BUF, BOS, FLA, TB
NYR, NYI, NJD, PHI, PIT, WSH, CAR.
ANA, LAK, SJS, PHX, COL, VAN, CGY, EDM
DAL, STL, CHI, MIN, WPG, NSH, DET, CBJ
New Conference
First two rounds of playoffs are strictly within conference -- 1 vs 4 and 2 vs 3, winners face each other. Just like old Divisional format.
Four conference winners are seeded on total points, 1 vs 4, 2 vs 3, so an all-East or all-West final is possible.

I am not sure how I feel about this. I think it might be good to see any team in the NHL in round 3.
I don't think it's fair because each team in the two 7 team conferences have better odds of making the playoffs then the two 8 team conferences.

They shouldn't call them conferences, it'll just confuse people. Call them divisions.

This alignment certainly favors the Bruins at the moment. However, I don't like the four conference concept.

This.
It still is a clear East/West Split. But this is the NHL we are talking about, when have they ever thunk things through?
Also, the Flyers longest travel within their division?? 50 minutes to Carolina. What a joke.

Bingo. This easily opens the opportunity for 2 NHL teams. Quebec City could easily slide into our division, and Hartford could play in the division with the NY teams. Any other logical expansion ideas in the geography of that division?

I absolutely HATE this. The current set up was absolutely perfect. Should not have ****ed with it. Switch Detroit and Winnipeg and your done. They blew this.

I like the possibility of playing a team like the Rangers or whoever in the cup final, not sure i like uneven division numbers.

I'm going to need somebody to break this down from a Bruins perspective for me. My wife just gave birth 3 days ago, and needless to say we are exhausted. My brain's only working at 50%.
So what impact does this have on the B's??

Can't do it. If they name one of the divisions after a Bruins player we will get more favorable treatment from the NHL.

How about Delware North presents the Jacobs Conference?

The best news is our conference is a 7 teams one so there is a spot open for the Quebec Nordiques when the NHL will finally pull the plug on the joke of a franchise in Phoenix.

+1
I don't see how they're going to make things even-stevens...Seeing the same matchups every spring will either become tradition or extremely redundant. Sort of leaning towards the latter right now.
