So what impact does this have on the B's??
With Mtl, Tor, Buf, Ott, Flo and TB as competition, the B's should be in the conference finals (final 4) for years to come.

I hate it. 12 games against the Panthers and Lightning is pretty much as bad as it can get. Color me blue.

Why on earth are the New York teams not in our conference instead of the Florida teams?? That doesn't make any sense at all. Putting Boston vs. New York in any format is always good marketing.

Phoenix to Quebec City perhaps? Their AHL affiliate just moved to Portland, ME this season with a 5-yr deal.

really. The Lightning have some high end talant. That was a great 7 game playoff series last year.

Florida looks good this year but I don't think they will be good for the long run.

The Bruins should make the ECF every year now.

I love the playoff format, it'll be nice playing Montreal, Buffalo and Toronto year after year.

Geez I was focused on how much I dislike the playoff format. Never thought about about 12 games against these 2 teams. Yuck. As noted above Tampa has some good players but their 1-3-1 trap makes for some boring hockey,

I'm happy since the Bruins will be coming out my way every year now.

I think it will make for some great rivalries. With division playoffs those inter-division games are going to be HUGE.

PS. I'm calling them divisions and I don't care.

I don't understand why some people don't like the playoff format

The Bruins should be clear favorites to be in the Final 4 for a very long time

I don't like this whole idea of "you have to play everybody at least twice" bull crap...but if this brings back divisional playoffs then I will put up with just about anything.

Divisional playoffs. Just let it sink in.

That's it. If not, that meant we lost a series to Buf, Ott, Tor, Mtl, Flo, Tb and eventually, Quebec.

Great news for the Bruins.

Only thing I dislike is 12 games against the crappy Florida teams and the fact that we'll play the Pens+Phi+NYR 2 times less a year.

In the old Adams Division format when playoffs were within the division for the first two rounds the playoff match ups became very repetitive year to year.

Because you can't divide the 3 NY area teams, and you can't separate Philly and Pittsburgh, and you probably can't separate them from each other. Two divisions stayed together and nobody will miss the one that got split up.

It'll be better once Quebec gets a team, its not likely to be Florida now but that would've worked out perfectly.

And it kind of help the Habs as they have a big fan base in Florida giving them 6 more home games a year...

They'll still miss the playoffs tough...

Can someone please explain the playoff format? How is it that we can play "any" team from either side- which round does this start in, or is it all of the rounds? Dale mentioned something about seeing a team from your conference in the finals, yet they didn't explain how. Thanks.

Have to think that Detroit was one of the 4 who voted no.

You play in your division until there is a winner, so the first 2 rounds. Then it's based on points of the remaining teams.

1vs4
2vs3

In terms of how many points the final 4 teams had.

Once the plug on that joke of a franchise in Phoenix is pulled, they'll be moved in Quebec and into our division making it 8 teams and 15 vs 15 in the time zones (actually both 8 teams division are in the west).

So I guess the schedule shakes up like this for us:
6 divisional opponents * 6 times per year = 36
23 non-divisional opponents * 2 times per year = 46
For a total of 82.

Why? They will be playing games into their time zone and no more no less than others against other time zones.

The Habs probably voted no cause they are now the worst team in the division and they won't be able to sneak in as the forever 8th seed as they have the last decades...

First two rounds are in your conference, like the old divisional playoff format.

Once you get to round 3 you re-seed across the four remaining teams, 1v4 and 2v3. So you could play a team from the western half of the continent in round 3, and then a team from the eastern half in the Cup final. You cannot play a team in you 7/8 team conference in the 3rd or 4th rounds though. If they said that then they were mistaken.

Definitely not. They absolutely would have voted for this. They hated going out to the Pacific twice a year, now they only have to go once, and play most of their games against old Norris division teams and in the Central time zone. That's the best they could have asked for.

I love this realignment. The only downside IMO is playing the NYR and PHI only twice a year. That's it. I can even deal with playing the Florida teams 6 times since as of right now they're pretty competitive and playing in Sunrise will be like 3 more home games.
