I'm not sure why Max would go public with his dispute with Shanny over comparing his hit to the Cooke hit on Savard. Shanny says he emphatically did not, Max says he did too. There were others on the call, but they haven't cleared up the story. The dispute is pretty out there and public and it's hard to see how Max can be anything but a double loser here.
I can't see anything good about getting into a pissing contest with the NHL head office. They're a very political bunch who take things personally and hold grudges. Remember Colin Campbell's emails to refs about divers and about protecting his son? He's still there, hell he's Shanny's boss.
I'm glad he said it, it's not like the NHL can do any worse for Montreal considering the shabby reffing and inconsistent suspensions handed out, good for him for sticking up for himself and the team.
What Pacioretty is doing isn't that smart. It's sort of uncalled for, really. Yeah, it was inconsistent by Shanahan to suspend him, but let it go and move on. There's no point in making him his enemy.
On the other hand, if there is a next time, everyone will even more closely scrutinize Shanahan's decision...so maybe Pacioretty is actually smart.
Good for Patches. It often feels like the Habs are known as the whiniest/dirtiest/most hated team in the league - might as well fight for ourselves, no one else will.
Shanahan has no right to suspend Tootoo now, if he does he's a ****ing loser.

Well from the video he was just responding to a question from John Lu asking why Shanny claimed he never made the comparison and that Pacioretty's camp was the first to bring it up.
That said Pacioretty better hope he's right on this or he's going to look like a complete tool.

Shanny put himself in a tight spot by not suspending Lucic. I think he really made himself look bad there.
Add in the MaxPac hit, with the fact Chara got away with almost ending his career (granted it was Murphy), suspending him put Shanny under another big light.
Now he has no right in suspending Tootoo. If he does not, Buffalo will be all over it. If he does, nashville can question it by raising Lucic's.
Tootoo made a bigger effort to avoid Miller than Lucic ever did, so I have a hard time seeing how Toots will get suspended. I can see Shanny using the crappy excuse that Miller was in the crease though. It is the only thing he can spin this on.
Shanahan is not going to last at this job very much longer.
He went guns blazing and then tried to rear it back. You cannot.
Pacioretty is doing himself no favours to be on his bad side but the next major market team that feels slighted on a call, it's going to come down hard on Shanny.
Basically, think if the Gionta/Reimer altercation happened after the Tootoo and Lucic altercations with no call on Reimer. Do you think Burke and the Leafs would be quiet?
Don't see what Montreal has to lose here, unless Pacioretty is incorrect.
Pacioretty received a massive injury on a play that warranted a suspension and notta. A guy in that situation might harbour some bitterness. Might vent a bit when the time comes.

In my opinion he has every right in the world to be bitter.
I say good on him for coming out and speaking his mind, and I don't doubt for second he's telling the truth!
If Tootoo gets suspended, Shanahan loses all the credibility he has left (which isnt saying a lot). Bruins players are protected from the league while others have to pay the price.
I believe Patches. I listened to the interview and it sounds like Shanahan is covering his ass. Maybe he retracted the comment to people who would back him up on that, but I don't think Max or PG would lie about it (not that PG is going to stick up for his guy).
Shanahan seemed like an honest guy. Now, more and more, just a *******.
@carl carmoni...I doubt there is a bruins bias, if there was, Marchand and Paille would have not gotten suspensions last year, but they did, how is that explained?

I agree, since it also appeared Tootoo was shoved into Miller.
I think it is only a matter of time before the league needs an inquiry. The
"old boys club" running the show is a joke. I am just curious how long they can keep their obvious bias hidden behind obscurities and double talk. If they had set down any sort of hard and fast rules it would take less time to see their bias but who knows how long they can keep this sideshow going.
The more players who call them on their ******** the sooner we get them out.
